Just wondering, what level of advertising do you guys use will yell.co.uk? Yellow Pages claim that people are up to 4 times likely to respond to priority advertising than free advertising. Do you guys think they are accurate or slightly exaggerated the numbers? Is it justified to spend up to £200 as apposed to getting a free listing in your own experience?

I certainly have had more enquiries via yellow pages since I started paying for advertising - and that was just a three liner. Maybe a coincidence. Hard to tell really.

Shiner, Grafter, how many enquiries on average do you get a month?

It's not easy to give a per month figure really.
I suppose the highest in a month would be about 20 and the lowest probably none at all.
I have the misfortune of living in a town with sprawling terraced housing estates with no rear access (I travel out of town for most of my work). With my address and telephone code in the YP ad, I would get a very high proportion of enquiries from my home town - most of which I wouldn't offer a quote for due to poor/non-existent access. When the book comes out next time, I will be paying around £600 a year for a box. I will suppress my address ands use an 0845 number so that the area cannot be deduced from the code.

It is quite good!! Does the price above include online advertising?

No,
That is just for the book
Yell.com has cost me £150 for a high lighted box, with that I can access my acount online and change any of the details myself. So if I decide to add another service I go online and add it to my profile

It's all ok with these as long as you are prepared to travel

how's Yell doing now days? Last time I heard from them was when they went into adminstration in 2013. Not sure about Yell.com but no one uses the book now days. Its all about google now

You bored ? ;D

I would have to agree... the yell and thompson directories that comes through my door are tiny now. It seems to me that the only ppl use those phone books is if they don't have the internet which are very few and far between thesedays.
Myself I would not bother to be listed in any of them but that's just me. If you stick a free linsting in them you get hownded to go for a paid listing too. I wonder why?
Now as for the online version that's a bit of a joke too as most local business are ranked higher in organic local search results so that seems a waste of time too if you ask me
Still each to their own I guess.
