Title: Smokers windows
Post by: Egg on December 20, 2007, 04:30:51 pm
Hi guys

New to the forum lots of interesting topics a real wealth of experience and knowledge about our trade, hopefully I will be able to help some out in the future as I have a few years experience both trad and wfp.

Anyway I was doing the insides today for a customer who is a heavy smoker and the windows are really hard to clean as a residue always seems to be left behind and the glass looks smeared

Any good tips of the best way to clean them would be appreciated

Hi Egg ( ???) ;D

Erm...sorry, what I always do is get a decent window spray (Tescos clear stuff is the best), and soak them all first.
Really wet the sods.

Then leave it a few minutes and start from the first one you wetted.
Wipe the edges with your wet cloth first, then squeegee off.

Unless you leave much behind, don't wipe the edges too much, as you could smear them again.

Of course if you haven't got a spray on you, then your washer will have to do, but just let them soak for a bit.
That's the secret. ;)

Use pure water (no detergent) soap forms an emulsion with the nicotine film and you'll never get rid of it.

Buy some of these, dissolve in warm soapy water and apply liberally to offending glass

Use a swab, very decent dish cloth or a microfibre first. Soak it in your bucket and wipe the window with that first then just clean it as per normal. If they are really bad you might need to go over the window twice with the swab.

A capfull of household ammonia in the bucket will make a huge difference.

The sprays you buy are full of ammonia, so back to my idea then. ;)
