Title: Internet how big an area
Post by: Mike Halliday on December 19, 2007, 07:52:56 am
so  the Internet is the future,

a question for all you carpet cleaners who rely on the Internet for most of their work, how big an area do you cover?

I'm an old fashioned type of guy who relies on old fashioned leaflets to get the bulk of my work, 95% of my work is within 3 miles of my home. I would guess that the Internet will never keep my work so compact.

I've searched for carpet cleaners in my area and I'm getting companies 40miles away

I am based in camberley and I get calls from as far away as Milton Keynes, 50 miles away. My google advertising is local about 15miles around me but for some reason i get calls from all over the south.

so how can the internet be the future, maybe if you want to spend half the day travelling, but if you want a profitable compact business leaflets win hands down.

with the internet you are inviting anyone with a computer to use your services, from the poorest council tenants to the multi-millionaire.

a  leaflet will only go where you send it., to people you want.

There is no doubt a well targeted leaflet campaign can keep you busy locally, we have both done this for years.

However the internet opens all sorts of possibilities and I believe offers the prospect of much larger CC companies.

As for enquiries if you don't fancy the job then you don't book it !

I now travel much further, yesterday for example did a local job to let the traffic disperase, then Waltham Abbey and Havering on the way back.

The last two were well paid jobs and it was definitely worth it.

My fuel bill has gone up but my advertising cost has dropped by 80%.

Cheers
