has anyone had to make a claim against there pl insurance did they pay out or try to find a loop hole to avoid paying , never had to make a clain yet myself
-
No but i know a wc that had a claim against him & about £15,000 was paid out. He told me if it was not for PL he would have been in big trouble.

The main problem with insurance schemes is people not checking what the small print says.
You should have
Property worked upon and scratched glass
You will have to pay for this and not around £100.00,its more like £300.00
Dont forget to get your equipment insured also
You only get what you pay for?

Ravensford
FWC the broker is allied
You do have to be a paid member to go in the scheme
Darwin clayton is another good policy
The only trouble is there are loads of PL policys out in the market but its not till you try and claim will you realise what the policys is worth

Hi Bryan
Are they any good for EL?
-
thats right, some of them i got quotes off didnt even included what your working on! the glass!
royal and sun alliance i am with now - at first i got public liability to 1mil
and accident and illness cover but now i reduced it down to just public liability - at least this does cover working on the glass against any scratches or damages to what your working on. It was a bit more expensive with accident and ilness but its about 30 a month for me now.

I used FWC for 10m EL & 2m PL for upto 5 employees and that cost me £750 and they cover you for the glass you are working on.

How many people have actually damaged the glass they are working on? You'd have to be extremely careless/clumsy to do that. I can honestly say that in all my years nothing like that has happened to me. You need PL for things like people tripping over your hose, your ladder falling through someone's conservatory, dropping your squeegee on someone's head etc, etc.
I have the Master Tradesman policy from MMR (only available through brokers) it costs me about £70 a year for 1 million cover. I have only ever had to claim once, I stood on a radiator and it came off the wall :-[. Water ran down into the apartment below and caused a bit of a mess. The insurance paid up without batting an eyelid :)
There was no penalty the next year :)
Cheers,
Ian
