my pump box was frozen solid

BUT

i put my spare set-up in the garage so was working at 9.15 this morning

the pump box attached to my cart didnt thaw out till 11.30

so my spare pump box has allready paid for itself ;)

i kept my poles and most things inside, or in the garage (heated)
then quickly de- ice the car and set it all in the back, have the engine on for a little bit to warm up and heating on!
i dont think my things would have frozen, overnight probably would have if left outside because when i washed the car the water i used froze on the car..  but today wasnt that cold really, but it soon sets in again in the late afternoons...
and the roads are pretty slippy too, trying to accelerate out of a junction and the front wheels are wheelspinning!

its allot of fiddling about though taking everything indoors.

I've got a 140w bottle heater (you can get them at an electrical store) which I put by my pump when it's going to be about 0 or -1

About -2 / -3 I put a hairdrier in the van as well about an hour before I'm due off.

At -5 - I stay in bed and don't work until noon!

My van hoses were insulated and they froze. The expansion caused some splits in the pipe work, luckily not my microbore or pump.

I replaced the van pipe work and went out and got one of these.

I cant use electricity as the van is too far from the house. It runs on paraffin and one 5 ltr container (£4.99) lasts 4 nignts approx.

The heater cost £52.00 from homebase. I decided to get this one as the outside housing does not get hot where as the chimney type does so a bit safer for in the van.

The first night I set the flame too high and the van was warm but full of fumes. Last night was better as I turned the flame down.

I do a fair bit of early morning commercial work so this heater has been cost effective for sure. ;D

Brought all my stuff in the house last night but got to first job everything fine. By the time I got to second job pump had frozen. Had to use valuable coffee from my flask to thaw it out.
Everything is indoors again tonight. Pump freezing is potentially dangerous as you can burn out the motor trying to run it. If it won't run SWITCH OFF.

no wind up from me

yesterday and the day before, pump wouldnt work, the hose pipe was solid and you could see the ice in the hozelock connection

my sill cloth was folder over the edge of my bucket and that was solid and i had to pull with all my strength to get my mop out of the bucket

last night i put my spare pump box and mop, brush and hose in the garage, so i was allright

If your using anything plastic ie hoselock fittings you will have problems, theres massive gaps for cold to get into the water that`s in there still from the days work, system john guest fittings, hose micro-minibore fittings and no freezing problems at all.

cant get the hoses in tho or a ro system..... get a couple of blankets over them... it protects from jack frost biting.. try it.... i even thought it was warm when i touched them after lifting blankets off.... no expense spared here lol.

Get a diesel heater, i turn it on 15-20 mins before i go every morning, keeps the van dry & if there is anything frozen it sorts that too.
