Title: merlin - whats going on?
Post by: alanwilson on December 13, 2007, 12:23:35 am
Hi I have a merlin ro, 2 years old and normally I get about 80ltrs an hour of 10ppm water.

I check it every time I run it to make sure its ok but tonight I got home and checked it, the water was coming out about the same rate as normal but at 2ppm!!

I checked the tds meter was ok with calibration soln, it was fine, I checked the tap tds, still the same.

any ideas?

Yes, would check out with another tds meter. It happens alot in our area, tds up, tds down. It can be to do with your water supplier, and if they switch where your water supply is drawn from. First time it happened here and I spoke to the water board who confirmed that supply area had been changed. Would keep an eye on it just to make sure it doesn't shoot up ;D ;D

I am with Rob --- Water pressure. I have noticed that my tds is much better in the winter months than summer ones. I assume that the water companies restrict the pressure more in the summer to try and stop people using as much water as they might normally.

No it can't be any of the above, the inlet pressure is the same (40psi), inlet tds everything the same.

spoke to my supplier today and he told me its quite common for this to happen, as the water temp decreases the membrane contracts, tightening the pores of the membrane making it harder for minerals to get through, essentially like going from a 20micron sediment filter to a 5 micron filter, it won't allow as much 'dirt' into the pure water.
