Cost of fuel is going bananas this is one of the most expensive costs to running my company.
Got an email from the Fuel protest people, they have launched a petition yet again with the government, if it will do any thing or not (Probably Not), i dont know but the link is http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/reducefuelduty click on it to protest about the fuel costs
-
My fuel account cost for last month topped £1000 for the first time!
Probably not the last!!! :'(
Prices have gone up by between 5-10% in the past two months.
We always increase our prices in the New Year and always get the odd complaint or comment, however the justification this year will be quite easy t quantify.
-
You will be spending even more when you get your t/m fitted ;D
-
Steve it is fitted and IT IS costing me more!!
I would reckon on about £20-25/week in unleaded, it's especially high when you're cleaning upholstery as it runs none stop for the whole time.
We'll see if we're still operating to the same profit margin by the end of December. Hopefully turnover will have increased so that should offset the additional running costs.
Got 7 holiday cottages to clean tomorrow up in the sticks, so I'll be taking a spare 20ltr jerry can with me then!!
Don't know what to do after lunchtime though!!!
-
Ian I was on about Aiden
-
£25 a week I'll trade you! I spend £15 a day easy sometimes £20, but it works twice as fast as a porti (not twice as good :-X)
One thing to consider is that fuel prices have gone crazy ever since the no smoking ban has come in, perhaps the nation is beginning to stop smoking and the revenue has to be gotten from somewhere else??
Shaun
-
Steve,
Well you didn't say that!!!!
Aiden what are you getting?
-
It beggers believe that people are worried about spending £25 week on t/m fuel !!!
next to nothing , on the money you are taking per week I would imagine .
;)

I spend £150 a week on fuel. that's van, car, & T/M.
-
usually at this time of year £150 a week for van and TM.

Fill up lads as boycots start sat :(
-
well if you lot werent driveing such posh vans you could run on cooking oil like me and get it for 55p a ltr ;D ;D now thats cleaning eco friendly
-
Worked out my TM drinks £5 a machine hour in fuel.
Looking at a gas conversion next year.
Mark
-
My lpg garage is 60p a litre, I've heard that you save about 40% which works out at 66p a litre based on £1.10 unleaded I bet I'd save £1k on the year and at £600 plus vat to install.

£5/Hr!!!!!!
Ran my Prowler today for about 3 hours and used near enough a tank full of fuel, 6.5 ltrs when full.
Works out at about £7.00 or £2.33/hr, then again I may be way off the mark.

thanks for working that out for me!
looking at a gas conversion again on one of mine just to see how long a bottle lasts, ie if it does a week on a bottle and can switch back to petrol when it runs out it might be handy! less time refilling as well
Plus if these transaction numpty backed %$^£%£@%$'s start another blockade on saturday at least it another option, so far we have all vans full of diesel and 150 litres of petrol stashed away so we should be good for the last week. at least.

Diesel £108 a litre by me.
Robbing ba****ds.
Believe tax is about 76%.

Hi,
I remember this was discussed a while back, but why dont you run a diesel TM on red?
Its perfectly legal and miles cheaper. Better than chipfat or kerosene i would imagine ::).

How many places sell red? the nearest to me is miles away and not in a place a pass regularly either.

i'm running my new maxx disel on red and its costing me 60p per litre and using about 2.2ltr per hour so its about £1.40pre hour i'm happy enough with that :)
-
I've got a pro mount 20 , a full tank £20 seems to last about a week , in saying that I spend most of my day watching Jeremy kyle and loose women.
It will get a bit more expensive to run, I hope

I think you will find that the "numpties" you talk about are made up of joe public and people like yourself.
There will as always be more small hauliers at least trying to do something about the fuel costs that are pushing a lot of them to the wall, compared with competition from the big fleets that can work fuel price increases into their multi million pound contracts with the major multiples and the competition from foreign companies who fill up over the channel, don't pay road tax or have to abide by the stringent regulations faced by British companies a lot of these guys are being forced out of what is already a hard business to stay on top of.
Without haulage companies think what a position you would be in, supplies don't get to supermarkets without road transport, nor do clothes, white goods, furniture, or any other items that you take for granted, including the materials it took to build your home, if you ever fancy trying what it would be like without these people to deliver everything that modern society requires then stand in a forest somewhere minus food, shelter and clothing for a few days and see how you change your mind.
As these small firms are forced out the bigger companies will push up their prices and let the consumer pick up the bill for it so it does affect everyone, not just the "numpties" :P

Captin Gatso and Transaction2007 ( sounds like a load of truckers in wigs and heels) who have said they will blockade refinerys starting saturday, are numpies even the road haulage asscoiation has distanced themselves.
Just anoher inconvienance and wonder how much support they will have if people can't get fuel to vist family at Christmas. Think they have picked the wrong way to protest at the wrong time.

Shaun,
try a local farmer or plant operator,
I pay 45p per ltr from local farmer . they do have to keep some form of record of the usage of red deisel but providing you are not cleaning him out evry week, I dont think he would be to bothered .
the accountabilty of red deisel they use is not to strict.
if you want you can get yourself a deisel tank and buy red direct, providing you meet the criteria , obviously you would have to purchase quite a few gallons initially. but if long term costs and savings are of importance , then goe down that road.
to me , not worth the hassle and outlay.

I think they vary I used JK's machine the other week and it is more economical than mine.I can fill mine and it will run for 4 jobs before I need to refill as long as its not a suite.Only use it at 3/4 revs

Guys, using red diesel in your car/van is illegal.
You are evading paying duty. It is not worth the risk to your business

Martin, I only glanced through the posts so I may have missed something. Red is only a problem if used for the vehicle. Using it for the truckmount is quite legal.
I plumbed my truckmount into the diesel talk directly as it saves having to carry an extra can which in itself is illegal.
When I am working I will use 50 or 60 quid of petrol for the truckmount in a day. It burns about a gallon an hour and I have a 10 gallon talk that will just about last the day. I do carry a can of fuel, also illegal, if I know I am going to use more than the 10 gallons.
If Martin you are correct in that someone is using red for their vehicle then you are quite correct, it is not worth the penalties. You would have to back pay the taxes for as long as you had owned the vehicle.
As for the prices of fuel. Who gives a monkies? Theres nothing we can do about it and with the charges we "should" be making then it isnt a problem or shouldnt be to our profit margin.
I talk to quite a few people on here and also read some of the posts. To those who give free rooms away or any amount of discount, dont, then you have your fuel payed for. If you do offer these discounts or offers then you cant complain about the prices of fuel, chemicals or machines.
Best, Dave.

The reason the RHA have distanced themselves from any action is that following the 2000 protests they wedged themselves very hard up the governments cheeks and they havent been out to draw breath since.
At the same time the men behind the original action recieved lump sums from the government (very healthy ones too) in order to keep them quite, Mr Jones was given a post with the Welsh congress, again to shut him up.

Martin,
think you may have misread my post, i was replying to shauns poat regarding costs of running t/m
Red deisel is perfectly legal.
derv , is what you must use in your vehicle . Deisel engined road vehicle. a t/m or any other equipment machinary can use red, unless your t/m has wheels and you can drive it ;) ;D
Geoff

Hi
Sorry yes, I was meaning machinery, or vehicles for agriculture.
Any road vehicle is not allowed to be run on Red Deisel.

well it's zero hour they are supposed to be starting at 9.30 wonder what will happen?
Anyone else like me with a TM, got a few cans filled up? to make sure you can work the last week.
-
It is not only our beloved leaders that are screwing us for 65p per liter fuel tax.
The petrol companies have rigged the market to completely eliminate the private filling stations.
They have done this by increasing the wholesale price of fuel so that the supermarkets can sell fuel cheaper than the independents can buy it.
They say that their forecourts are making a loss, but they extract and transport the oil and are the refiners and wholesalers. These areas are making vast profits and subsidise the forecourts.
Now there is no competition they jack the ptices up.
Have a nice weekend.

I’m more concerned a about lack of filling stations, five have closed my local area and turned in total car sales, the nearest is always dry (small holding tanks) same goes for one of the biggest. So I have to drive round to find one thus creating what?
Regarding red
(Any vehicle carrying out non-agricultural operations must be taxed, run on white diesel) ??? :-X
(The RYA has been fighting a long battle to extend the derogation that allowed UK leisure boaters to use lower duty red diesel. After much lobbying, the British government agreed in October 2006 to support our case. However, EU officials failed to accept the government's arguments and have decided that the derogation should end with effect from the end of December 2006. There is now a grace period in force for the phasing out of red diesel in the UK. It will be legally usable in leisure craft until 01/11/08.)

Fuel has gone up 15p a litre this year alone
