Title: gutter vac
Post by: Grafters Cleaning Services on December 07, 2007, 01:33:55 pm
This house is a regular window cleaning contract for us, each year in dec we clean out all the gutters for a price of £150, in the past i did it using ladder and it used to take me 3 hours (big house) today i did it for the same price using my onmivac and it only took me  1 and half hours   :)

I use an old carpet cleaning machine. Bags of suction, designed for sucking 8rap up and will easily do 3 storey buildings.
Attach suction pipe to any pole and away you go.

I'm considering both the Ionics gutter vac or the Omnipole omnivac, plus a camera, MP4 for inspection and to show customers before and after results on CD.
I've seen and held both but don't have any experience using either, (apart from the 36ft Omnipole pressure washing pole) and would be interested in your reasoning why you think the Omnivac is crap.
If you love expressing your disgust for the omnivac perhaps you would care to elaborate as to why you think it's crap as I am interested in both systems and appreciate your thoughts and views if they're constructive so I can make a wise choice as to which one I purchase from other users experience.

One question for anyone who uses the Omnivac system. If you use 240volt vacuum. Do you prefer to arrange a day ensuring your customer is home to be able to plug into their electrics or do you prefer to have the flexibility of turning up in bad weather at a moments notice and simply run your vacuum off a 5Kw generator and include that in the cost of the job?

i never use a genny, i always arange for customer to be in or leave extension lead out,
as for the system, yes it can be awkard at times to use but it is very powerful and does the job.

CRAP...........depends where you work, i.e. on building sites requires a 110 volt system otherwise you can run 240 from indoor source with PCB or connect up with a 5Kw generator and use it in the pouring rain which is the main reason I would like to use the system in the first place for wet weather jobs.

Thanks mate. Ionics do a similar machine. No camera though. They use clear tubes to see if you are getting anything. Combination of the two might be good?

I am supposed to be getting a demo from Steve Peel in the new year. Will be interested to see it working.

i agree with that comment, i would prefer a clear tube, however by lifting the lid you can see the cr*p in the cylinder

One reason for joining forums like this is to canvass opinion on issues which may effect your business. i am one of many considering this kit so if you have nothing sensible to say then dont bother, if you wish to add negative points then support them with your reasons.

When you are thinking of investing to this level then you need genuine advice not bull

I got sucked into arguing with cherubs, but that's the last retalliation from me as I too am also interested in gutter cleaning although it is a lot of money to invest and I want to hear other peoples opinions who have used both Ionics guttervac or Omnipoles Omnivac so I make the right decision for myself.

Hi Neil,
Where did you get the Hoses and Suction pipes ?, any Pics. Terry

The machine is a Woodbridge Powermate. The hose is a standard 1.5 inch suction hose I use 2 of these joined together to get the height.
Get a piece of suitably strong metal to create the bend at the top so that the hose when attached to it bends downwards. Attach all this to the prefered telescopic piping of your choice but it wouldhave tobe strong to hold all this. A Brodex F/G won't do soI use the omnipoles.
I will try and take some pics on Monday.

We all get rattled from time to time, after all we're all only human apart from Mr Solubility (only joking ;D ;D ;D).

Jerry, did you use the omnivac with the original Omnipole pressure washing pole which was converted as an omnipole for guttering, because the newer version has wider inner diameter pole. (Basically one wide pole slots into a narrower pole, then a wider pole, followed by a narrower pole to keep the internal diameter wider, if that makes any sense to you.

What output generator did you use out of interest?

Hi Jerry
I think you bought the omnivac back in March not in September.
This means you have the Mk1 version that used the powerpole do you have the 38mm or the 52mm vac hose?.

How did you bend the PowerPole?

My question was which size vac hose do you have the 38mm or the 52mm?

Some of our customers choose 38mm hose as the bulk of their work is  carrying out high level factory cleaning using  Omni-Vac.  For gutter cleaning customers mostly choose 52mm hose the GutterVac.
Their is also a option of 100mm hose together with  Anti static hose in any of the sizes this is again for internal areas where static would be a problem.
The 100mm hose is used mostly for grounds leaf clearance and ground level cleaning, simular purposes to the gutterkeepers roots.
I think we were at cross purposes before.
