now this is too late for me, but it might help others

i have a 60 GPD RO unit, its 4 years old and i havent changed a filter ( i flush most weeks )

anyways

last week the production came right down, 75 L in 48 hours

so i ordered a new RO unit, only 90 quid, so not much, that included 1 kg of Resin and a few spare fittings ( it also came with 500 g of resin with the DI tube )

anyways, it arrived yesterday, i set it up this afternoon as it was raining

i decided to see if the RO was really slow by changing the 2 RO's around, nothing changed, the TDS is the same and the output is

so am i right in thinking the pre filters is blocked, thus the pressure is really low ?? ? ??

ive now plumbed the RO into the waste of the new RO, should cut down on waste a little, sureit will not last as long, but it would only end up in the bin no anyway

another thing, the waste water is hammering out ALOT more than my old unit, i guess this is a sign that the pre filter was blocked aswell ?? ? ?

any1 know ?? ? ? ?

The pre-filter is blocked. If they are left unchanged for long enough the material starts to degrade which causes them to gradually shut off the water flow.  Matt you are a very bad boy - you know you should change your pre-filters more often  ;D

Ells teeth Matt you could make tea with a tds like that. The string prefilters get real mucky you could try giving them a scrub and a blast with a hose and see what happens. ROs can apparently be cleaned by filling and soaking in citric acid and then flushing or back flushing, (never done it) I was tought to use gloves when changeing ro filters to keep down bacterial growth.
maybe find some space for a rain butt and pump the water through the ROs- less waste as well. Got to be better than the water your using. Bet your teapots and mugs are mucky.
