Hi
I have to clean a rug tomorrow. The customer has spilt olive oil on it. Its 100% Wool.
What is the best chemical to use. Also should I just extract with cold water I don't want the sides going wavey again.
Thanks Fred.

Can anyone help please ::)

As the job is tomorrow what have you got to hand to use.
Personally I would dry extract as much oil as possible then use the eco spotter products for oil/grease.

You need something that acts as a surfactant. Got any citrus gel?
Doug, this is your field, help the fella out.

Ihave used formula 90 from chemspec on olive oil wth good results after a major franchise failed.

Trevor, that'll be FlemDry then?

I'd go with that as well the 90 not so good for the wool but guess the customer just wants the stain gone, your going to need a surfactant as well citrus gel or even brake it down with a we-table solvent as well. Know that a lot of people clean with cold water but think oil is the perfect case of needing a little heat will reduce the need for water and chems.
As rugs tend to be long pile you can expect it to wick back at some point, best to tell the customer "this may happen in a few rare cases" then if it does the phone call you might get is so much easier as they know it not your fault and you can go back and lightly clean the top.
Best of all take it away and do it off site, then take it back dry and done.

An enzyme product will contain lipalases which break down fats, so you could prespray , work in and leave for 20 minutes before extracting.
However I think we sometimes make things too complicated, get temp up to 70c, intank or inline detergent and just clean it.
Make sure you run some water into a bucket or into the tank so that the temperature is near to 70c, should clean fine.
Cheers

cleanimperial, get in touch and I will see if I can help you out if you havent already cleaned it.
What has been suggested will work but can also have irrepairable side effects.
Also a lot of work when there is a much easier way, best, Dave.

If its much easier why not just type it? ::)
-
robinsky, because it is easier to explain it to someone on the phone as opposed to typing it. Most if not all threads get misunderstood by just reading the copy and by talking to someone all angles can be covered and not questioned back and forwards on here.
Best, Dave.

robinsky, Dave is a top decent bloke he spent 2 hours on the phone to me the other night helping me rectify a problem I had made . He also gave me some good advice on how to forward my business and get the income I deserve
All the best John
