with all due due respect dave, why not share your knowledge with everyone on the forum, isn't that the idea of forums like this?

Colin, no disrespect taken. I have gone into cleaning rugs many times on here.
In this case as in the oil stain case it is easier to speak to someone for reasons I also posted on the oil stain post. I think it was that one anyway.
To explain this and then that and then some other way if the this and that didnt work can take forever on here. Then someone else will suggest something which many times if followed will do more harm than good and I would then try to correct that too.
At least in this instance the conversation between John and myself obviously worked in that he got the desired result he was looking for.
There are people on here I would phone for advise without starting a post. I do this for the same reasons I have mentioned above.
I am happy and always have been to help anyone with anything they may need help in. Just sometimes it is easier to do it on the phone or as in some cases I have gone to others to help them out "live" so to speak.
I also try to help as much as I can with my limited knowledge directly on here by posting. I might add I get a boat load of abusive e-mails for doing so. On some subjects as this one it is just easier to talk to the person.
Best, Dave

sorry dave, i wouldn't post on here unless it was to give advice to everyone, i don't like this 'secret' advice thing,
