very true

i bet its over 4 years old now

its lasted me well enough, only 91 quid to replace it with a 75 GPD unit

oh no, my car has full VW service history ;) the van has full history and the campervan has no expence spared ;)

my thought on it is, 4 years for 91 quid without anything being spent on it, or change the filters for X amount every 6 months and the RO will still only last 5 years ( approx )

interesting
are you implying that manufacturer's garbage suggestions about changing
filters might be distorted?

i should say i been running my ro  9 mths without filter change

i reckon it depends on how many litres output per week
and how hard your water is to start with

the more filters they sell, the more money they make

my water is 460 TDS and i produce roughly 500 L a week

As Matt has only the 1 membrane its cost effective for him to not change the filters, for someone who has 3 membranes it might be worthwhile changing them filters frequently, it just needs working out the cost for and against.

hell   thats not bad
mines 150 tapwater at 400L aweek

few weeks ago blew out 1st coconut filter from the inside using hi pressure
tap water hose     really made a differance

im getting 000-001 RO   after 9 months

Hey i like this talk of being tight - if you have three membranes is it worth swopping the first with the last? Or do they all fail together?

i plan to fit my old RO to the waste of my new unit, will see if it improves the output, it should in theory, shouldnt it ?? ? ??

It should give you nearly 85% extra output, and nearly 50% less waste Matt.

anything is a bonus to be honest, as im on a water meter its got to help with the waste issue ( though i have fitted a little gate valve on the waste that slows down the waste flow, thus increases the pure water flow

a booster pump will reduce the waste further,.. and a 3rd membrane will reduce the waste even further. You can achieve 80% product, 20% waste this way apparently. I'm still trying to find out how Ionics zero reject RO system works!!

All comes down to cost in the end, keep adding membranes, then you get into the realms of a 4040 system and so on untill you get to the stage of big booster pums etc.
With this crap weather i do wonder about harvesting rainwater though and considering bulk storage. Seems crazy to watch it all flowing down the road then pay to pump it back through your tap and pay for it on a meter.

2 points here.

1/ By filters do you mean the sediment filter and the carbon filter, if so then, surely you are risking bacterial contamination of your water due to build up in these filters of ie; legionnaires.( thinking about it the legionnaires thingy may be present in the pre filters as suggested, but the ro is supposed to take out bacteria and viruses in the normal course of its work).

2/ can't remember now. LOL

from what i remmber

sediment filter takes out the bigger particles

carbon filter takes out the clorine ( spelling ???) which protect the RO from damage
