Title: sponsor a hole
Post by: John Gregory on November 29, 2007, 05:24:18 pm
Hi all

been approached by a local golf club asking if  I want to sponsor a hole , basically Its like a wooden plack with my advert on it and a card holder, as any one ever tried this sort of marketing, The colf club is quite posh and has about 40000 members, what do you chaps think , is it just more money spent on advertising that does not work

Thanks john

If you were playting golf, you would probably be male, its usually females that decide to have carpets cleaned. If you were a female golfer would you bother to write down a phone number or would you be too busy?

Personally I could not see it paying off!

No way has it got 40000 members, it wont even have 4000 if that's what you ment, my club has about 500 and 90% are blokes!

Tell them you want a yearly contract to do the clubhouse then you will advertise.

A lot of ladies play golf - there the ones with plenty of time on their hands
(I'm going to duck low now!)

why do you have to sign up to 2yrs? if they believed it would work they would be confident to offer 1 yr contracts.

what else could you spend £1200 on and would this bring in more work?

Mike ,
cant imagine which golf club has 40,000 members  :(  certainly not in this area!!

I would say that any golf club that has 2,000 members is very rare, and most prestige golf clubs in this area are made up of non playing members. just to say they are members.

Mike, Pay them a visit and take a look in the locker rooms .
you will see on the notice board a handicap list , every member will be on their , add around 20% for the ladies section and you will see how many members they have

here's a deal i got local rugby club (local paper back page every week) could you clean 80 in our bar  sq metere once every two years and well give you a 5x1meter board on the sideline.

That sort of deal is out there.. just cut out the middle man and ask.

I also got a membership so now can have a Saturday afternoon pint and call it work!!!!!

oh and the 80 sq meter they wanted done was "sometime during the week morning probably best and in january wouldbe great!!!" ( took all of 2 hours)

try think differently and selling yourself in different ways.

Thanks lads for the replies , but let explain my dilemma, yell.com all I get is price shoppers.localpaper carpet cleaning for £10 a room, leaflets I've had 5 through the door this week, The only decent work I am getting is through referrals, today £260 for cleaning a semi, tomorrow £308 for doing a detached , I can't survive on just referals alone

yes but you will eventually just don't sell yourself cheap in your chosen field.

we have 3 van running on referrals alone.

I agree yellow pages give you lots of price shoppers, your prices sound good I'd be happy with them, hang on in there and if must take a part time occupation to make it up.

go for it just keep your credibility in your chosen field

I'll start a poll asking what i did once so you get the idea!

I sponsored a hole earlier this year I think it was for Alzeimers, but can't remember now  ;D

Got one job from it, it's a regular office cleaning contract, so well worth the punt.

Best thing to do if you have the time is join a golf club, get out at the weekends for the competitions and make yourself known to others.  They say that's were all the big deals are all made.

For the money, for two years, depending on the amount of members its not too bad, but never accept a sales persons first offer, they will probably take off up to £400 just to get the deal, however, for the money and if you have little work coming in at the moment, you can do a lot more with it, rather than sponsoring a hole.
My advice would be spend the money on generating immediate business, and look at a 3 month role out, then maybe start to look at static or branding advertising.

In my opinion you would get better results spending £1200 on marketing Direct to the people you wish to attract.

If you are good at Surveys you could use Free Room Letter  then go for full house clean and maintence contract etc

Donate the money to the Labour party through your sister´s bosses brother´s uncle and you´ll get all the publicity you could want!  :-X  ;D

As for publicity at the golf club - park your van outside every Sunday for nothing.
If after 4 Sundays you´ve had no calls then there´s your answer.
