hi guys why dose a brush have to splay on the glass?
i use a stiff ish brush as i did not like the soft vikan type brush but i keep seeing on here about brush splay?
can someone tell me about it?
cheers joe

Its a secret.

Well splay allows more surface area to be covered, it also allows corners and tops of panes to be cleaned better because its horizontal to the glass rather than 90o to it. When a brush splays you will notice that things like bird poo are removed much easier than a stiff brush because it allows better scrubbing. It also makes the brush glide better allowing swifter movements, which means more money! Luke

i think that splay that comes too easily aint no good
B&Q do a lovely wooden brush with white bristles
put it up against a flat surface very slightly - instant splay
and no tension

what is your brush of choice Luke?

My choice would be a Tucker/Unger Carbontec. Abseloutely brilliant brushes, the closest thing I've held to a Tucker is an Addis. But the Tuckers dont fit vikan style ( german d type threads ) I have the following brushes:
3x vikan flocked - too heavy - effective cleaning
2x vikan monos - a little too heavy - effective cleaning
1x ionics multopole - light - too dense with bristles - good for fly poo
1x super-lite ( bentley ) - light - effective- brilliant
1x addis not yet converted - seems like its going to be a good brush
When Gardiners have their new brushes in January I will be getting one of them. My recommendation for a Vikan thread would be a Super-lite ( bentley ) brush, Luke

The bentley brush is ok for regular PVC leadlight cleans but that`s about it,use it on first cleans and the can you come back calls will be flooding in it`s no better than most of the rubbish out there at the moment.
