Title: bently brush
Post by: jikwan on November 26, 2007, 09:08:19 am
many people rave about how good the bently is
its heavy and stiff    takes a lot of pressing to get any splay out of it
maybe i got the wrong type
its a pale blue from wilkinsons  £2 99
how dyou get it to splay
im thinking a lot of the bristles gotto come out  its too dense

The all new Tesco Melody is a Charles Bentley and sons  revamp. They also make it for J Sainsburys marketed as their Basic broom £2.59. Its a different model to the stiff oval Flocked Bentley we are used to but with longer flocked bristles it has stacks and stacks of splay. I shaved 1/2" off the flocked ends to make it a monofilament. I suggest its  OK for regualrly cleaned windows but not for initial cleans which need a good scrub. Weighs 8.5 oz
Cheers.

never thought to try sainsburys jeff
ill give it a go

the concept of loads of splay

i think its only good for areas where youre just washing off
rain+dust mixed
splayed brush wont (im assuming) move flycrap
i think i still got a lot to learn about brushes

thanks for ebay guys   14 quid might be cheaper than going
halfway round the world

Hi All,

My 2 peneth ;)

1.  The "Asda"  Bentley
A bit stiff, Ideal for conservatory roofs and facias

2.  The Tesco Melody
This brush has been changed about October time and is a bit narrower.
I have loads of the original ones and get on fine with them

I don,t need any brushes at the moment.  When I do I am going to:

1.   Try the new Tesco Melody
2.   Order a pack of 6 ADDIS brushes as they look the biz

im being a bit thick here but do you drill the brushe s and add jets ??

if youve got fan jets some bristles might get in the way
of the spray
can cut them with nail siscors
im using 3 jets at the moment
but i think 4 jets might be optimum

twas a £1.99 special from a pound shop somewhere, v.light and I had great hopes for it but the bristles are a combination of soft and hard and only suitable as a scrubbing brush for incredible dirty windows, no splay, shame really.

Jeff that`s the kind i like, short firm bristles with only average splay on the glass.I also jet mine near the top like that, hardly any rinsing needed.

It's a Bentley brush.  Very stiff bristle and not very light!

so how of all those brushes which one do you use the most and why ?

I use the middle row, 7th up from the bottom the most (Bentley Super-Lite) but I like the bristles on the right hand row, bottom brush the most.

Whilst you lot have been staring at other peoples brushes (ooh err) I popped out and bought an Addis brush and have jetted it. I tried it out (in the dark) and it splays very easily possibly it's too soft and may not shift the bird poo. I will use it all day tomorrow. I still think the perfect brush has to be dual bristles.

Had a full day today with the Addis mono. and it seemed pretty good - plenty of splay, softer than a Bentley very light and no loss of bristles. I tried it on a green conservatory roof panel and it cleaned that off, so far so good. Anyone else tried one?

Post by: jikwan on November 29, 2007, 06:26:27 pm
i donno if i got the wrong type of addis
focus 7 quid+pole
bristles   white centre    black sides
light   but wobbles about when using
press hard for splay
topframe coated with splash from fanjets
fit for garbage
Title: Re: bently brush
Post by: Jeff Brimble on November 29, 2007, 06:36:12 pm
The two tone colour sounds right, not for you then. If your getting that much spray through the centre fan jets maybe turn the pressure down.
Title: Re: bently brush
Post by: jikwan on November 29, 2007, 07:10:51 pm
i think i see why the old pros have such a stack of brushes

its got to feel right    know how to handle it etc

using same waterpressure but addis bristles are much more dipersed

im used to central brush fanjets   rinse brush-on-glass

with vikan theres an even stream being pushed down giving a complete rinse

addis ..........water goes through the   not so dense tufts
Title: Re: bently brush
Post by: Davew on November 29, 2007, 09:21:12 pm
Still using the Addis and because it's monofilament it is taking dirt out of the joins in upvc frames that my flocked Bentley won't touch. Haven't had a single bristle come out yet. If they could produce the same brush but double up the bristles it would be superb.

im lightening a Vikan ;)

the bentley is a nice and light bush, but the vikan is better if it was the same weight

so far, rubber surround off and cut a bit of the plastic away

ive lost 40 gramms, not much i know
Title: Re: bently brush

40 grams feels like 160 at the End of a pole.

oh its going to be more Jeff, i would like 100 g's of it

;)

Just based on the photos

You have to admit that the Ionics latest or the Tucker look better than all those!

All need an 'X Factor' test in real life to find out which on actually cleans the glass best.

Performance on the pole is important, but the real test is how well it really cleans the glass.

So, I would say the Jury is still out...
Title: Re: bently brush
Post by: Alex Gardiner on November 30, 2007, 07:31:10 am
I think the point being discussed is the effectiveness of the brush not it's looks.  If I had my own way I would stick to using a Vikan as I think they look the best, but I don't because having used most brushes on the market, I stick with the one that works the best at cleaning for me, even if it looks naff.

cheers for the advice

so far ive used a hacksaw, woodsaw and a angle grinder / disk cutter on it ;)

next plan it to router out the top of the brush with my router, i will get 100 g of it and then round all the cuts and sand them down

my last Vikan lasted me over 3 years and that would stil be going strong if it hadnt been wrecked with some oily hair product put on a window cill, so my thought is, make it light, then get it looking nice and that'll do me
Title: Re: bently brush
Post by: jikwan on November 30, 2007, 10:24:00 am
bristles are held together with staples hence the hacksaw
router blade i'd say will be blunted for sure if it touches staples

I modified a Tucker brush with a standard thread insert,it was a 9" and far to soft as well as being ridiculously over priced, for the price i paid i thought it would be the elderado of brushes. But it was just another rubbish brush that now sits in the shed.

Tuckers are mainly designed for the American 6/12 monthly cleans. But they do have a very  interesting foam centred brush for use on Hot glass.
