It all depends on how much water you process.

You should never leave it longer than 6 months due to material degradation of the filters themselves.

If you use about 400 litres a day 5 days a week in an average water hardness area then I would recommend about every 3 months as Chris has said. If you use more then slightly more often or if you use a lot less then leave it for the maximum 6 months.

Many years ago I learned the hard way that if you leave it any longer you risk damaging your RO membranes and interrupting your work whilst the RO is out of action. :(

Every 2 months would give you guaranteed membrane protection.

40" membranes are a lot more expensive than pre-filters!
