Title: airlock

hi guys i have screwed my hose reel on top of my tank in the back of my van and made a hose guide so i just pull out the hose all connected ready to go.
Only thing is now i keep getting airlock so has anyone done this and solved the problem?
all i have to do is take the pipe that gose to my DI off and wait for the pump to pump water then connect it back but there must be an easer way?
so can anyone help?

I have a stop end on the pipe from the pump to reel - works for me.

I had the exact same problem and was advised by someone on here to lower my pump which I did and now I never get any air locks

When you switch off or disconnect, the water in your pump probably drains backwards sucking air in the pipe. The pump probably struggles to pump air through it when you start back up as it was designed for water and would pump better if it was primed first. That's my theory anyway i'm no expert.

Are all your joints and fittings air tight. Anything not air tight will allow air to be sucked into the system.

Make sure you the hose before the pump or after does not have a 360 degree bend in it as that will create an airlock.

I wonder if hozelock fittings only seal properly under pressure. Maybe when the pump is off the connectors relax and leak?

Hi guys i think iv cracked it today as iv worked a full day and it seem`s that when you turn the pump off the water must get sucked back so if i put a tap on my tank outlet i think it will trap the water and solve the problem.

what you think?

This may be irrelevant but;
Has your tank lid a breather. If not as it empties it creates a vacuum. (solution unscrew lid a little and let air in)

good one iv not thought of that and i know its not a breather.cheers

has anyone got there reel bolted down and had this or other problems???

I always found that there should be no rise in the flow of water ie if the pump is above the head of water and its not a suction pump then it will struggle to pump water because there is no natural feed of water
