I have been asked to clean housing associations communal areas, what HS would take?

Seriously, every facility is a unique premise. But I supply a typed sheet with common sense cautions on it, for the approval of the manager and signed for. You'll need the usual Cleaning in Progress and Caution Wet Slippery Floor signs. I also have the Slippery Floor caution printed large and bold on A4 paper and stick them anywhere there's a risk of slip. I finally ask the the Safety Officer/Manager/Warden/Senior Person to approve the steps taken at the beginning and then ask for their approval at the end that I've left adequate signs and for them to remove them when all is dry.  Keep power leads, hoses etc to a minimum and don't leave any chems within access of the public, esp. children.

H&S is more a way of life rather than something you do on occasions, so develop good practices. My approach is for absolutely everything I do, from opening the van door, through walking over the grass, to plugging in a machine or rolling out a hose, working backwards with my wand etc. etc. etc. is to think "What are the consequences of what I'm doing?" Will I harm myself or others? Will I leave muddy footprints on the carpet? Will this Belgian Wilton shrink if I HWE? Will I get to the Motorcycle show on Saturday?  The list is endless. Aftre a while it all becomes automatic. That is until a pretty lady walks past the window..........

Thanks for the feed back you do what I do and I agree HS is paramount I thought I may have missed a some thing, what I also intent to do is post these through the letter boxes.

Hi Len

As ken says above,

The local authority will probably ask for risk assessment which will include much of what has been said above.

They may also ask for a method statement ::)
