Title: Van security?
Post by: Nathanael Jones on November 12, 2007, 08:57:19 am
A question for all van mount WFP'ers:
When filling your van, or working a distance from your van, how do you handle van security?
I've seen loads of guys leaving the back doors of their van wide open with the hose trailing out,.. and I'm not keen on the idea!
Is there a way of routing the hoses out through the floor of the van etc?
Pictures would be appreciated!

I simple take out the hose and poles needed, then lock van up.

Will take a pic when the van gets back  ;)

if you use microbore hoses, the van doors will shut and the microbore will sit in the rubber between the door and the body, no loss of pressure and you can lock the van up and walk away, do it all the time!

does that mean you have to take your hose reels in and out the van on each visit to a customer?

yes, if I dont want to I just pull out from back, but it quicker to just take out and plug in takes less then 2 secs to place in on the floor

i have mine mounted to the van floor so there always connected to the system, i have a static ro and di with quick transfer pump so no need for any ins and outs and no need for the reels to leave the van, there has been debates about this before but i personally think its what suits each person best, but i definatly recommend having the reels on the inside but have the microbore run under the van doors...works perfectly, don't know if it will on all vans though but i presume it would as they will all have rubber surrounds

As said if using mini-microbore hose you can close the doors in the middle under the rubber seals.

the only problem there is you are causing a trip hazard (more like a high jump for a baby. With it the way I use the hose is on the floor not 30inchs from the ground and when I pull my hose tight it stays on the floor and not in the air.

just don't pull it tight, once i've pulled the amount of hose out i need, i have to walk back to the van anyways to shut the doors so i lay the hose directly on the floor, no need to pull it tight!

i have a fiat scudo & theres a metal blank by the back door to the right, i took it out then made a hole in another plastic blank & feed my hose down & connect my hose reel to that. van doors locked, no probs

I just take my reel out of the van, stick a sign over it (if on road not 2 miles down a drive  :P ) take my pole press fob to lock van and walk, this saves alot of time over a month  ;) and I have only been doing it a few weeks, I always look at way to optimise my time as I seem never to have enough of it, if only they made a days 48 hour I would be sorted well at leats time I filled up the 48 hours in a day  :-\
