Title: Apple imac for my business.
Post by: jdemarco on November 10, 2007, 05:27:34 pm
Looking to upgrade my pc and thinking seriously about the apple imac 20'.
I am a bit of a technophobe and have heard apple imacs are easier to use than pc.
My main uses for my business is designing and printing top quality flyers and business cards, which leads me to ask also what printer to go for also? and web site design.
My secondary uses will be for music production and recording, general entertainment dvds music etc and surfing net but i dont want something that i will need to upgrade in a couple of years.
So what do you guys use for yourself business and pleasure?
Surely at least one of you is a computer geek!
                                 cheers

I use macs and PCs.

Pcs for more general office applications, i use my mac for graphics, web design, final cut pro and logic.

i much prefer macs but its what i've been trained on but office applications and internet i use a pc as not all aplications are available on macs, wish they were though then i would throw my pc out of the window!! ;D

as far as I am aware the Mac is better for designing things always has been, so I am told by all the designers I know, on the vid editting and music, spend the extra and get a good system. You are looking around a grand for system unless you can build your own you will need a very large harddrive and ram get as much as possible and a top graphics card, I personally use pc's as that is what I am used to have three and a laptop (I do not rate windows vista at all, if getting pc go for XP Pro 64 bit, I do all of the above you have just said, I will be getting another as soon as I move into a bigger office and may well get a mac this time just to see if it is better for web design.

well i run a mac g4, old now about 4 years old, it runs panther osx, 1 gig of ram 867mhz processor. it has never buckled yet, obviously there are a lot more bigger and faster machines now but i have never upgraded simply because it never fails.

i have a sony vaio laptop, suppose to be the don gargon cost me about a grand and its pooh! keeps freezing, takes ages to boot up, it could probably do with cleaering out but all it is are simple small files.

i class the mac as a brute and the pc as a whimp!

I have a mac mini with the latest version of iwork and ilife.  I've designed my simple looking website with ilife and I print all my business cards and flyers off from iwork.  If you got a new imac iwork would set you back £55 but it would be money well spent.  You can be an idiot and still get very good looking results.  Macs are so easy to use and so much more reliable as well.  No need for anti virus programmes.  They're a bit more expensive but the components of the machine are better quality.  Once you start using a Mac you will find it hard to go back to pc's.

I got a colour laser printer.  You can pick them up nowadays for about £150ish.  Total hasel free printing with perfect results every time.  A small tip if your printing off some fliers why not get a slightly better quality paper, give people something to hold.

Simon.

I think you'll be waiting a very long time for a deal to come up.  If you are buying brand new gear and not old stock then the price doesn't change that much no matter where you go.  The best thing is to find some one that has a student discount card and get them to buy it at the apple store for you, you may save 10 to 15% that way.

These are out in the USA and will shortly be here for Christmas, I understand price will be  about £200. 7" screen, want it to take the full George with me. I think I saw it was an apple or windows system. I cannot wait, but suggest you do until they are in UK. Do an ebay search for "asus eee" Hope this helps.
