Hi All
Our website is finally up and running

For those of you that are not aware, we offer a design service which includes web design, print based graphic design (ie business cards, brochure packs, flyers, letter heads & DM). Our design team have BA Qualifications in design as well as experience of working in the industry.
We also run Telesales Campaigns for Commercial Contracts and Letter Writing services.
All this as well as Domestic Canvassing!

sry to sound as i am nit picking but why would someone with a BA Qualifications in design be a window cleaner or do you mean you now have a webdesigner that works for you. Please dont take this as being offensive, I am just interested.

Thats fine. I don't clean windows myself, even though we have lots of male customers say that they would like us to, ha ha.
I have a BA(hons) degree in Graphic Design and this is my background. After graduating from uni I worked in the industry for a number of years until I decided to go freelance. My partner, at the time, was in Sales and was in between jobs, he met Paul from Door Knockers and did a few nights work for him canvassing. He roped me into having a go as he thought it would be different for a female to offer a window cleaning service, as it is predominantly a male orientated industry. I worked approx 4-5 nights over a couple of weeks and much to my surprise, and everyone elses, I did really well. Roundbuilders was then born shortly after!
So together with the uni friends that i was freelancing with (one specialising in Web Design and the other in Illustration) and with my expertise in print based design, I decided to offer our services as a package to the cleaning industry along with our canvassing skills.
.... and Nat your comment is right - depending on the brief given by the client. The design industry is very demanding, long hours, low pay and over saturated with new media graduates willing to offer their services in the Big Smoke for free. We are fortunate to have created the opportunity to continue working in the industry we trained in, but now we complete briefs of our choice and work for clients of our choice. By stumbling into and learning about, the window cleaning industry (nearly 2 years ago) it's enabled us to utilise all of our skills.
It's not so surprising to learn how many window cleaners come from academic backgrounds, and similarly with varying degree qualifications. Doesn't that say something about this industry!

Hope you do well with the new area to your business, I too design websites, as this was my background before starting windowwashers.co.uk many moons ago, we now design only for window cleaners as we no the business inside out ;)

As I understand, the starting point of a print design is based upon a grid system and in order to create a consistent, stylised design some sort of template is always used. The main page is designed first to create the frame work and from that the others are built around it, whether it be web design or page layout the process is similar.
Our brief for the roundbuilders website was to be professional in appearance, clean and clear in design, easily navigational, informative and logically written. We feel we have succeeded in all these aspects and are pleased that we have received such positive feed back about the site. Our target audience was predominantly for small businesses and the window cleaning and cleaning related industry. Whatever our target audience, be it the creative/design or cleaning, then the website would always be designed for the specific industry.
We therefore developed our own page template for our web site with our brief and target audience in mind, and decided that we did not want to detract from the content by creating something too busy or flash.

Dave, thanks for feedback. I have not had any problems and according to my research am not doing anything that should cause me problems. Local to me are an all female decorating company called 'the painted ladies' they advertise they are all female and marketing is based around this also. As far as i am aware they have not had any problems either.
Tony, no im not a member of 'The British Window Cleaning Academy' but was given permission by Philip Hanson at BWCA to included there logo and a link to their website. I thought it would be a useful resource for both start-up businesses and expanding companies.

If your advertising is clearly excluding other than female / male from working in your organisation you would certainly be in trouble................it's all in the wording.
