ok people, firstly thanks for all your comments and suggestions
so, friday morn i pick him up and to my surprise he was smiling chirpy and very apologetic about the incident on thursday afternoon
we went to the cafe before starting work (i bought brekky) and i tried to make him understand how much time, effort, and money i have invested. he then agreed he was out of order apologised again, then he asked for a payrise! lol
just for the cheek of the little i agreed, we shook hands and he worked like a dog all day........ he got what he wanted ..... i got what i wanted........ happy days, although i did state to him if it ever happens again i would have to let him go, and if he ever talks to me like that again, my good nature goes out the window, and you get a slap
-
alls well that ends well, everybody happy.............until the next time ;D ;D
-
you should have given him a slap anyways just for being cheeky
-
Fit him each morning with one of those dog shock collars and when he 'starts'....just give him a buzz and he'll think twice in future about making any comments... ;D
-
Buy one of those Tazer things...a quick 10k volts in the neck will make him see things as they should be ;D
How old the lad by the way?
-
i think you approached the problem well and lets be honest you wouldnt pay him it if he wasnt worth it!!
i would say you used good man management skills well done :)

Once he starts wasting the extra money your giving him he`ll be at it again, you won`t satisfiy him no matter what, just get as much work out of him that you can as now he knows the score the next time he won`t make any funny comments he`ll just leave,i`ve been there and done that with lads and i paid them well.It makes no difference what bonuses or incentives lads like this get his attitude is that your working him like a dog to make as much money out of him as you can,DERR is that not the idea of having someone working for you or are supposed to say is everything alright here you are heres half the money.I know this sounds crazy but if you employ someone who is to ambitious your in for trouble, you want someone who is happy jogging along working for someone else and dosen`t want the hassle of working for themselves,i`m not saying pay them rubbish money look after them and they will look after you these are the guys that will stick with you for years, but these blokes are far far harder to find than your average WC.

Get another lad lined up. He now thinks you are a soft touch. I personally would have said no to the payrise, and said we would review it in 3 months depending on his attitude / workrate.
In 3 months give him the rise if he deserves it.
