hello again , after reading a lot of past posts it seems to me ,that micro splitters are the way to go .Am i right to think that they could save a lot of money as they can be used on carpet and upholstery as well .
I would like to give these a try on the various old carpet pieces that a carpet fitter mate has given me. adjitating is the key from what i read and also correct dilution, will it work on all kinds of carpets as i now seem to have a better understanding of machines , i now feel i need more info as to what chems would i use on a range of things.
I am almost sure that you must have a solution that you allways use for carpets, same applies to furniture and just a few things such as red rx for most common stains , otherwise you would need a second van just to transport them all.
This is just my beginners view and prob way off mark but felt the need to ask
ps: can anyone give me address 's suppliers micro splitters and chems alike many thanks simbo

I think you will be surprised at the cleaning ability of M/S and the cost savings, in the past I used two products to clean soft furnishing now it one.
As you have said agitations is the key, but that also applied to the other pre-spray cleaning agents out there!

Be carefull with Red RX simbo its NOT for most common stains you could come unstuck :-[

I agree! get hold of some number 3 and eco spotter, there are very few stains you wont shift with these 2 products at hand :)
Paul
-
Paul,
They are both excelent products effective against a wide range of spots - but if I did not have an early start in the morning I would list some of the many stains they will not touch.
-
paul
what is number 3 what is it used for and where from, and is crystal green good stuff as a mate uses all the time not sure how good he is though?
-
Simbo, Both number3 and eco spotter are available from solutions Nick. Crystal green made by prochem is an extraction detergent, I did once use it when i was starting out and if i recall it worked well but the nature of this type of cleaning may well leave a residue.
This was before i used micro splitters which due to there minimal residue i now prefer.

What stains wont they touch and what other reconmendations would you give.

thanks paul
so it's really m/s all the way for you then. Does this also reduce the risk element of cleaning different types of carpets and upholstery.
Any tips for getting really good results as will try on old carpet samples first especially as i will only be using carpet brush to start with for adjitating "cost again"
-
Simbo
No 4 is woolsafe approved.
Don’t blame you on the costing side you need to check out the product first, but you will soon buy a sebo duo when doing customers homes.

Simbo,
I have done trials with micro splitters for last year after solely using rinse detergents for the 24 years before that.
I have now settled on a system that works well for me using both. I use a TM.
I prespray with microsplitter and agitate the traffiic lane areas, I rinse off the edges and lightly soiled areas with plain water. I then do a trial rinse with just water on the worst area of soiling and if this works to my satisfaction, I continue rinsing with just water. If the result of the test area are not up to my standard as often happens, I switch my rinse agent to a diluted detergent, this always does the trick. I only go straight away with detergent these days on heavily soiled manmades especially polyprops, not that Im saying Microsplitters wont do these jobs, its just my personal preference. I have stated it many times before and I will state it again - I have never experienced rapid resoiling problems or premature wear on the likes of wool carpets over the time I have used detergents, and many of the carpets I have cleaned with detergents I have recleaned many times with an average repeat gap of two and a half years.
Dave.
-
dave, do they work on all types of carpets? what sort of detergant do you use if not satisfied, i understand that sebo,s are not that expensive so would get one pretty quick.
I am allowing myself untill jan to learn as much as i can before taking coarse and then registering not going full time for a while at least. M/s sound the biz as far as cost affective will give some practice for a while.
p.s would you still use things to ad a nice smell?

John

Paul
Paul,
The list of stains that will not respond would be too numerouse to mention here, but I would say that if I were to carry no mere than two spotters, these two would be strong contenders.
This, however would not alow me to offer anything near a complete servict to my customers - today for example I have used 8 different spotting agents , some days it can be many more.
-
I'm starting to have the same opinion as Dave, to just fresh water rinse all carpets some times just does'nt do it.
I had a problem with a 'smelly carpet' 2 weeks ago which I've now decide was due to over-wetting because i used a fresh water rinse, the traffic lanes needed 3-4 attempts to get clean. If I'd used a detergent this would'nt have happened.
most modern detergents don't have a resoiling problem when used in the correct dilution.

-
Hi Guys,
I too am not that confident of microsplitters on carpets , that I use a detrgent back up (dilute)if I think the results are not good enough.
I think Mike's point about over wetting is important and dare I say it time is also a factor.Afterall as Dave says many of us have used detergents over the years with excellent results.
Interesting topic , I am still learning!
Cheers,
Doug

hello again,
seem to have hit on a good topic here, this leads me to another question, what detergant would you recomend for most general use, best dilution etc,etc
just thought i'd ask
thanks simbo
-
Thought I'd have to get a better feel for these "microsplitters" so just ordered some "One Step" to try with my Extracta Exel.
Always generaly been using Superchem from extracta with very good results on most carpets, though did have a poor result last week on a particularly bad track from a restaurant kitchen into the dining area, very heavy inground grease etc.
Any advice on how best to use one step or any other microsplitters would be appreciated.
-
Lion heart,
This is very basically how i get great results with microsplitters( in my case solutions 2 & 4 )
1, Pre Vac, i use a twin motor nilfisk upright
2, Sparingly apply pre spray, at a ratio of 12-1 up too 20-1( i use hot water)over application can wash surface soiling to plie base.
3, aggitate north to south then east to west using sebo duo or similar(rotary on some commercial)
4,Fresh water extract at 60 degrees
5, Set pile
I have found microsplitters work very well with charlie pads, this technique is fantastic for commercial maintenance work, i clean a local snooker and bowling club every two months with charlie pads, this carpet gets really abused but comes up a treat with minimal fuss and dry in no time.
Paul
-
Hi Paul, what are solutions 3
& 4?
and what are charlie pads?
thanks Paul
-
Simbo,
The detergents I use are :- Alltecs Ultmate Master, Prochems Crystal Green and Double Clean, Hydramastera Hydra Dri, and Spitfire (Which can also be fresh water rinsed).
Dave.
-
Hi Countryfresh,
Solutions number 2 and number 4 are micro splitting cleaning chemicals, number 4 being woolsafe. A number of CC's on these forums use microsplitters on a majority of jobs, check out the solutions uk website.
Charlie pads are used in conjuction with a slow speed rotary, they are a very effective low moisture method of carpet cleaning(only commercial carpet for me but others may disagree) these are also on the solutions web site.

Hi,
Did this chair today. Agitated with Bane Preface, rinsed using Bane PCA 5.
Would never dream of using Micro Splitters again, they just don't cut it when put against traditionals.

-
Peter,
You missed a bit ;)
Interesting , I still use traditional chemicals and microsplitters.
It's horses for courses.
Solution no.3 is Solution no.2 diluted 3:1 with water.
Cheers,
Doug
-
Doug,
The chemical make up of solutions number 3 is not the same as the number 2, Im sure Nick can explain in more detail.
Paul
-
Hi Guys
Solution No3 is 25% stronger than the No 2 concentrate which is why it is labelled as a Spotter. No2 diluted will not be as strong!!
Peter your chair looks interesting if cleaning this with microsplitter did not work I would suggest you may have been using it incorrectly.
Lionheart if you send me an e mail I will send a trial pack Free
Best regards Nick

Peter
you missed the middle bit its still black ;D

What are your thoughts on rinsinsing with detergents?
M/S are still new to me and my results have been good but not fantastic.
I think my techniques are improving all the time but at the moment I'm thinking there are some occasions when traditional detergents may may acieve a better result and maybe with some time saving as I seem to spend a fair bit of time applying No3 re agitating and re rinsing.

Are you trying to make a point, if so not impressed as from the picture I can see some markings also what have you done to the arm it look flat and curled.
Re Bane know of the machine, cleaning agents zero, take it they don’t advertise here or do they? ;)
Buy the way noticed the label ServiceMaster ;D
Len
-
Len,
The marks on the arm did eventualy come out but took some scrubing. the elderly owner had been sitting her husband on the arm rest to feed him, he had also repetedly wet and soiled himself on the same chair when they had visitors round, so overall result isnt bad considering the circumstance.
She said he was unable to keep his draws dry for 5 mins.
Thanks
Pete
-
Peter,
A great result, especially considering the type of soiling.
I must however say the, though I would use 'conventional' products for some of the soiling, the general effect is in line with what I would expect from the use of micro-splitters,
-
Thanks John,
The guy must have loved chicken nuggets, found seven of them stuffed down the side.
Maybe he was saving them for later! ;D

For my limit experience (4 years) I use what it takes to get it clean. It may be MS and it may be Umaster or F90 or whatever.
Dont forget some of the cleaners on here only clean clean carpets!!
I personally havent cleaned a suite as dirty as the one above in over a year (apart form rentals). I would be well pleased to have got the result Peter got, in fact I may even get some Bane chems.
Like David I havent seen signs of resoiling from using detergents (is that even the correct name) except from customers own attempts with 1001.
IMO using correct procedure and using chems the way they where designed will get good results.

good morning guys,
I think the thread is being kept going on the subject of m/s by the head in the sand approach to the methods we all use, The this is the way ive allways done it syndrome! yes i agree change is always a hard thing to do when you have been doing it the same way for yrs. i only ever used ultimate master/double clean ect, it was the way i was trained,it was the way every one did it!
i read about M/S on the forum, pondered for ages about the method! couldnt quite get my head round the method, after all ive always thrown powder in my tank, and spent time pushhing a brush up and down a carpet, but i tried them with an sceptical mind, >:(
I found a new method to clean carpets and upholstery,i found the results outstanding, and my drying times are better,
The customers think that its great, people are becoming more aware of IDAQ, they also like the fact that they dont have an oudor.
I think we as a group of people should be more open to new ideas, and methods,
Ive been around the industry fo r 25yrs, and ive just had my eyes opened ;D
Dave
-
Hi Peter
The poor old girl, you think she would get some help with the old fella wouldn't you >:(
If you got all the marks out then well done if it works for you keep doing it.
You probably did not give MS a long enough trial period, it is a bit of trial and error at the beginning with them.I am sure that most of us that use them would have got the same results as you on that chair.
How long did it take to dry and did you have an odour problem bearing in mind that the poor guy had soiled himself and the chair.
-
Hi Phill
I assume you mean rinse using a detergent? you can do this if you wish however the microsplitter would work against the detergent therfore reducing the capabilities of both chemicals.
and cost you more money!!
Your choice of course ;D ;D
Best regards Nick

Sorry to here of his inconsonance, the lady needs to contact the district nurse they supply Tana.
I take it that mean when you removed the seating cushion you found the golden nuggets and not put you hand down the sides looking for the tip!
Mark
I have a nice one coming up re http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=4382.0 still want me to clean it? Are you local to me?
Dave401uk
Have to ask what’s IDAQ just love educantion
Len

Dave,
I have also been in this business for over 25 years, and like you I have always been on the lookout for new things new ideas etc. It was only three years ago that I joined Fast Track and have gone on update training courses throughout all those years, so I dont think you or anyone can accuse me of being a stick in the mud (Not that Im suggesting your post was solely directed at me?).
I accept that maybe I have not quite got the absolute hang of microsplitters on all occasions - dont get me wrong, I get superb results with them, with a fresh water rinse much of the time but not always and as I said when the results are not up to scratch the switch to detergent does the trick. I did ask Nick on an earlier post about a microsplitter seminar to demonstrate on the correct way of using microsplitters. I have listened to many people on these boards describe how they use them and and tried their way with mixed results, so as far as I am concerned - at the present time at least - microsplitters are not the be all, end all, total replacement for detergents unless you are cleaning what the CCs in our area would call clean carpets. I get suites like the chair in Peters photo all the time and while I accept microsplitters would do a good job on it likes, in my opinion a detergent would do better.
Dave.
-
Len,
IDAQ , according to Google it's , Imperial Data AcQuisition or
Indoor Air Quality , I think Dave means the latter in this case ;)
I too am an 'old cleaner' , who because of the advent of microsplitters am experimenting more now than I have since I left the lab many years ago.
I am very pleased with the m/s approach on cleanish upholstery and carpets , less convinced on dirty carpets or upholstery.
I will keep trying when time permits but expect to keep a range of chemicals on board.
Cheers,
Doug
-
I am sorry if any one thought i was directing my comments/views at them,i wasnt, i include my self in my observations!! "The ive always done it that way syndrome"
while i agree M/S are not the bee all and end all,imo there isnt such a chemical, that covers all situations all the time,it is a case of more amunition,
today i cleaned a lounge and dinning room, the carpets were 15 yrs old, I feel the result i got today with M/S is better than the result i would have got a few weeks ago using the method ive used for yrs, the one ive always thought was the dogs ;D
All i am saying is (me included) we can all see new things, some work, some dont, M/S Do :)
But then......this is only my opion ;D
Enjoy the weekend
Dave

Dave,
Thanks for that. I know some lads swear by MSs, that big Yorkshire man Johny Flynn does, perhaps I need to spend a day with him - look out John Im on my way.
