This may upset the apple cart but I don't expect Xmas tips. It's totally archaich. My customers pay me well for my services throughout the year. I do the reverse and give them all a very nice Xmas card thanking them for their loyalty and business. I get the inside printed up with a message from me and sign each one personally.

I don't expect tips either.  Inevitably I get them though.  I get nowhere near as many as I did some years back but that's probably because I don't collect on the doorstep these days.  Also, I try to run it more as a business than the "friendly neighbourhood window cleaner" mode so it may be people just responding to my change of tack.

if you expect it does not happen, just carry on with the job and try not to let it annoy you. I did let it annoy me for many years. I now just class it as just another season/month, only thing that changes in the run up is I only book in well paid jobs or they wait till after this period/month

If i get tips it's a result.

I can get a coffee off virtually any of my custys all year, that means alot more than a fiver at xmas.  ;D

If i don't get a tip it's not the end of the world, i could not earn what i do for the hours i do, i enjoy my work so you cant put a price on that.  ;)

everyone likes tips, it is a show of respect for the work done, i just used to wind myself up about it as i bend over backwards to do a top job every time. Now I do not excpect anything, if i get its a bonus, thats experience for you

As you advance in years (as I have done) you will find that the above happens even if you only have a single cup in the mornings.  My remedy? I have an empty "GG3" bottle in the van. ;D

Unfortunately I tend to forget to empty it regularly, after a few days it honks a bit ::)

As we have changed most of our customers to paying online or by cheque, I expect the tips will go down, saying that we still got over £600 last year, plus a few bottles

That's the spirit.  :)

From what I read on here most WC's earn far more than their customers and still expect a christmas tip?  :o

Different in the old days when WC'ers could earn very little.

I dont expect a tip. Some do and some dont. I expect nothing and then what you do get is unexpected.

I am giving out proper xmas cards to all my customers this year and I am also having some gifts made too.

As far a I am concerned irts all part of the image and you have to give something in return (sometimes)

I don't expect tips, but if I get them I will be grateful.  I like to think I do a good job, and a show of appreciation, even a comment like ýou do a good job'is appreciated very much and can make the difference between a good day and a great day!

Sounds soppy, I know, but every little show of gratitude is welcomed.
