Title: Fake Suede identification of material

I went to look at a 3 piece today customer said it was a dirty pink Suede suite.
On inspection I find it is fake suede the label states FR treated ( does any body know what this means)

The label is very misleading as it says it is made of
Acrylic (Draylon)Velvet
Viscose Velor
Antron Velvet

It is 6 years old and has been scotch guarded.

Can any body tell me if they have come across one like  this and what is the best process to clean it?

Did a test with micro splitters 2,3 and 4 to find no colour transfer and soilage was removed but as it is badly soiled not all came out.

FR = Fire Retardent Treated

You'll have no problem wet cleaning this suite ;)

Paul,

The label clearly indicates how helpful the manufactures wishes to be.  >:(

Of the three fibres mentioned, nylon micro-fibre (Antron) is the most likely.

Solution No. 4 would be suitable but may need a little help - a very light misting of Eco Spotter on heavy body contact soiling immediately after the M-S can have amazing results. The agitation of heavily soiled areas is best done with an upholstery mitt or cotton towel.

These fabrics greatly benefit from a towel finish - if the towel turns grey, more rinsing is required, followed by further towelling.

Before you start you should discuss the probable removal of the fire retardant by the cleaning process.

Hi Paul

If it is heavily soiled firstly you need to thoroughly vacuum tamping the material as you vacuum this will open the material and allow more dry soil to be removed, then pre spray with solution no4 agitate straight away, then rinse extract with warm water, then towel off using micro fibre cloths you may have to pre-spray and rinse a second time on heavy soil, finally reset the finish with a soft tampico brush. Eco spotter can be used on stubborn staining if necessary.

The Microsplitter will not effect the flame retardent, and if the extraction rinse in warm not hot it should present little or no problem however to be safe advise the customer that any form of cleaning can effect a flame retardent
