Hey lads
My window-cleaner (who doesn't do a bad job) made another sporadic appearence today....i've told him to leave me off his list now, he was fine about and i will miss him as he isn't bad BUT i never know when he's coming (i think he only does this round when he's short of money) so as such i've never got everything clear for him to bring his ladders through etc etc etc.....I just want a window cleaner that will come every 4 weeks or at least 6-8 weeks tops.
So, how do i go about finding another window cleaner now....? I asked another guy i saw at a house round the corner, but he said he was booked up (and anyway lol he looked well dodgy)...
Help!

Yellow Pages
Get free quotes from your most local window cleaners, or better still a reccommendation.
What location are you

Great Barr in North Birmingham. Its a big area though, a lot of the local chaps only seem to want to stick to 'their' roads....
I'll give Yellow Pages a look. How much can i expect to pay for WFP? I have 12 single windows in total (some are butted together to look like a double but they are actually 2 windows), plus two patio doors and a large sliding door....The other guy charged £6 to do it traditional style, took him about 15 minutes. I know i'll have to pay more - and i dont mind that- its just i dunno what it costs ???

If you ask someone local, I guess about £10.
If you ask a Clean-it-Up tall story porkies merchant, I'd say about £35.
So ignore the crap that's about to be thrown in your direction. ::)

If it takes 15 mins trad and is £6.00 that is about right, but a lot of window cleaners are going the £10 min route , so make sure you get added value if that is the case, ie frames cleaned and the doors kept clean.

Way before your time, I was there 1969-1972, but I do remember Jefferson, he was our RE teacher, Longmores was there but we never had him.
Old man Hedges was the head with baldy caldicott as the deputy (hated that Bloke) I stuck a spud up his exhaust pipe, he went balistic Lol.
Mr Ford was my last year teacher (woodwork) he was a brilliant guy.
I'll take a look in the chit-chat now. ;)

Cripes i've high-jacked my own thread....oh well....
Jefferson was a pretty cool old bloke when i was at school, but he retired while i was in my second year. Longmoor was an a s s hole. I joined in 1989, about 1/3 of the school was in the process of being rebuilt following a fire at the school. Then in spring 1990 someone set fire to the school AGAIN and burnt down the entire new wing (which hadnt even been opended yet) as well as the bulk of what had remained standing from the last fire. My most vivid memories of school are being taught in portacabin classrooms with walls that shook when you shut the doors and windows. It was very 'Crossroads'.

:o :o I wasn't there when the fires started??? Honest ;D ;D One or twice, when I was there I thought how nice if the school to burnt down, The whole buildings including the bottom class rooms were made of timber.
Hey did you ever hear of spook and jerrys cafe in the school, it was an Unauthorised cafe that was started by me (Jerry) and my mate spook, caused a big rumpus in the school that one did. and no we never set fire to the school. ;D ;D

Im confused, maybe I have the wrong end of the stick here, but can't you do themself?
You are a window-cleaner, right?
Matt

Hi Matt
No, i am a domestic cleaner. Amongst other cleaning jobs I occasionally do other peoples windows on the ground floor (indeed i sometimes do my own) but i prefer to have a window cleaner (for what it costs) to do mine, and i dont have ladders to do, nor do i fancy doing, my upstairs windows.
Cheers

Ah well then, in that case i'll forget all about a 4-week visit, i couldnt afford £50 every 4 weeks for window cleaning ;)

Well let's see now. I live in Sussex so a 300 mile round trip, bed & breakfast thrown in, plus a days sightseeing, there might be some change from £300. On the other hand, it might be better to get someone local :)
Seriously though, if you have 12 windows, don't be surprised to pay around £12. I know there is regional variation in rates so you might get it for less. I'm wondering if you might have made a mistake in parting company with him. OK so he was a bit irregular but £6 sounds like a bargain to me. However, regularly cleaned windows sound important to you so expect to pay more than you have been.

sounds like he has 12 panes of glass

Unless Macc offered maybe? ;)

Yes indeed. I did rush a bit when reading the post. If I was in that area, it might well qualify for my £10 minimum charge rather than be a £12er.

Hi Shiner
He may have been on the cheap side but you are correct, it wasnt the cost i am bothered about its the fact i need my windows doing. The fact he did them on a Sunday (his choice) suited me down to the ground but it makes me wonder wheteher he only comes when he needs more money. If he gave me notice he was coming it wouldnt have been so bad as i could have moved all the cr@p out of my garage and laundry room so that he can get through with his ladders, but most of the time i just ended up saying "Oh just do the front 'cos you cant get round the back"......
:(
I just want someone who will be regular or at least tell me when he's coming.
Lizzie, i'd love to have Macc polish me windows once a month...Can't see it happening though :'(

You may have just told us why he wasn't bothered about you cancelling. I know a lot of window cleaners (myself included) shy away from pre-arranging their jobs. I used to do that years a go but it became too difficult to sort out. If there are access difficulties, then you may well be stuck with a W/C who hasn't yet developed his business. The trouble is that as soon as such a W/C starts looking for which jobs to drop or pass on, he/she is likely to choose the jobs with poor access. Well that's what I did anyway.

Hey Shiner
i think u are right....it was never an issue when he came every 4 weeks, i was always prepared.
Then somewhere along the line he just started turning up when he felt like it.....usually he was half way through the front windows before i even knew he was here :(
