Sounds like you're maxed out.

Not worth it mate
a carpet cleaner I used (a long time ago) dropped dead on a clean
I bet his widow wished he slowed down

listen to your body. If its telling you to chill a little, then listen to it.
Always Rota yourself a day off each week. If weekends are busier for you, have a day off mid week. Even if all you do is laze around......do it. Its good for the soul & body.
Dont beat yourself up for NEEDING some time off.
-
Also, think of all the customers you'll let down if you run yourself down and get ill. Not to mension income lost.
-
Put your prices up. Then you'll be doing less work for the same income or more.

hi there
john, i have always liked your thinking, keep it up.

hi there
weve been manic jul, aug, sept, and oct, all over the place, and the books are nice and healthy.
the benefit of running your own business, is when you grab that half a day during the week, you can because its your business.
the only thing is, bank it whilst your busy so that you are rock steady if you get a quiet patch.
the other thing is, that if you are busy busy, you take your eye off the future, and can sometimes, stall as you havent lined any more work up, so its a fine balance about working smart and hard.
have a great weekend

Work to live
Not live to work
Keep your life simple - its too short to waste it

Hi there,
That is good and honest of you, it is better you do the job right rather than shabbily.
Your health is important too anyway.
Enjoy your evening.

After 30 yrs working for myself I now do 3 days a week. Before that I always felt that it was not on to do nothing but look at the sky during "working" hours. For nearly 20 years I worked 6 1/2 days a week and often 7 starting at 6.45 in the morning feeding 25 horses with evening rounds at 9.30. I am not moaning but I missed a lot of my kids growing up and now watching my grandchildren getting older realise what I missed. It is important to have time to yourself and other time for your family.
Work is not the be all in life, chill out and strike through at least 1 day in each week to recharge the batteries. Do not even unlock the van door that day.
Charge a bit more and work a bit less. Listen to Grandad!! ;D

I can't understand why anybody goes self employed to work so long and hard. Unless you are upto your eyes in debt, got 10 kids, or a money grabbing whatsit. I work 5-6 hours a day in the job and normally take Fri Sat Sun off.
It always amazes me how many trades people who tell me (with pride often) that they havn't had a holiday for 15 years.....!!!!
I started in business 7 years ago and now like to consider myself semi-retired. :)
But if we were all the same life would be boring, so stick with what you feel comfortable with.....Or!!?
Now where are my Golf Clubs?
Rgds, Tony.

Who wants to be a millionare........ I do!
-
Well, you started off what has become an interesting thread
but if you want to be a millionaire then carry on working 7 days a week and probably suffer the consequences.
who wants to be a millionaire - I DONT
-
Richest man in the grave yard springs to mind.
-
That was meant as a joke. I am totally burnt out at the mo, I dont know what it would take to become ' the next carpet cleaning millionare' but I'm not about to kill myself trying.
Cheers

hi there
Tony,
i'll tell you why i started my own business, to achieve a better standard of living, i knew that i wouldnt be abke to achieve that goal by working for somebody else. so i took the decision to start my own company, and well into the third year the fruits of my labour are starting to show.
my plan for the next five years will mean that i should achieve that better standard of living, and am achieveing it, if i pay off my mortgage in the next couple of years, then thats great.
you have to work hard to achieve the goals in life, whether that be in work or play.
the work -- personal life balance is a difficult balance to achieve and maintain all of the time, ive seen people start there own business, and within 18 months are back working for an employer, cause that either couldnt hack it, or didnt have the drive to motoivate themselves.

martin
ps oh and if i make a million in the process, then my children will be sufficiently provided for in future years, its a tough world out there, and its going to get tougher.
but the main thing is that you have your health, a good life and that you enjoy what you do, cause if you dont then you might as well not bother.
-
justin, your young enough to do the hours and reap the rewards but be careful, you WILL look back and wish that you had seen more of the kids and wife, i was in the print industry in a former life and worked all the hours i could, i wish i could turn back the clock and could have seen more of the kids growing up but that said, at your age you need the money for mortgage, hols and all the rest so you'll do the hours no matter what us old f**ts tell you, TRY to take some time off and don't feel guilty about it.

Hi Colin,
I have been working mega hard, as you know I have 3 lovely children and a beautiful wife to look after, the other thing is as we all know next week I could have a few quite days, so it is very difficult to find a balance. I have just put the 3rd van on the road so if I take my foot of the pedal to much we will all suffer. Oh well shouldnt moan as its been said we all do ot for a better life, and like most I really enjoy the job.
Cheers

Hey Colin, why dont you disclose your age??? lol
-
I hope that didnt offend you Colin. only joking.
-
justin, you are right on the button there, the main thing is that when you are busy and everything is going well, it's a damn good way to earn a living, i wake up every monday morning and wish i had won the lottery and could stay in bed but do you know what? by monday lunchtime i'm into the swing of it and loving it again! i think the thing is that when you are quiet, don't be scared to have the time off and enjoy it, don't feel guilty, as for the age thing, i'm 35, or that is how i feel anyway!!!
colin ;D

You wise old owl you, well said! 35 never, not a day over 30!
