Evening,
Talking to a mate today, also wfp, he reckons I can apply to the water board to use water from street hydrants/stand pipes, whatever theyre called. Permits are available and your given a meter and pay for its use. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?
I'm in a flat with limited space, small van and ro and about 200ltr holding tank,. My round is expanding and all thats holding me back is the amount of water I can store. I would like to upgrade to an on demand ro in the van, with a tank obviously but the advantages to me would be not having my flat cluttered with hoses, ro sub pump and tank, I could fill up during the day pretty much anywhere I'm working. I'm already on a meter anyhow so pay for what I use. The costs may even be less perhaps as I would'nt be paying sewage costs? ???
Is this possible? anybody know?
I will enquire with the water board but thought I would ask here first.
Thanks
Simon

Yes it is possible, but as far as I am aware you need diffent fixings to tank etc, I have a pic of a hydrant system on my DIGI cam, it is being posted from the iow SO SHOULD BE HERE IN A WEEK OR TWO >:(.

Thanks for the replies
I was'nt aware of that old thread, the last post on it by johnboyfree was what I was on about:
Hi,you apply to the water authority you are taking the water from and they will give you a standpipe with a built in meter,my area it is about £150 for 6 months and the first 50,000 ltrs are free, after this its 93pence per 1,000 ltrs.hope this helps
I shall have to look into this further to see if its a viable option
Cheers

In some areas it is free (I think Cornwall is or was), you simply get a permit and buy yourself the gear and off you go. You will need a pretty massive set-up to cope with the flow-rate, 4x 4040 membrane with suitable pre-filtration first. It is probably cheaper in the long run to use just DI off of someones tap.
