It does seem a bit rude but so long as they send the payment within the 14 days as requested, I don't really care. If they leave while I'm working AND don't send a cheque, that's another ball game. I don't really expect them to settle up till I've finished anyway.

i have loads that do that , and loads that aint got money when i collect ..... always get a good xmas tip tho ........

say this, you just off out? please could you pay me before you go as it saves you 50p. Thank you.
if they say I will post it say this: thats fine but will have to charge you 50p for the cheque to cover the charges: the look on their faces is great.
That gets on my goat and if they dont pay within 28days charge a late payment fee, I introduced it a long time ago and cheques posted within 3 day went up more than 50%, you are a business after all treat it is such ;)

Macmac, there is plenty of good customers out there so why have customers on your books if they wind you up or come out with not this time. I don't think twice about dumping a custy as i know they will be replaced, also they get to know what they can get away with, if you let them once they will do it time & again.

If I ever feel a customer is 'cheeky', I'll drop 'em.
I treat all my customers with respect and I expect the same to be given.
But I do keep in mind that customers may not always have the cash on them, or they're maybe off out in a hurry and haven't got time to go looking for their cheque book; and may not have the social skills to pass that information on, so go without paying; so I'll not usually be a pain in the ass over it; but I have dropped customers for 'dissapearing' while I've been at their property.
This actually happened to me this morning, but the customer is a good bloke; was smartly dressed and getting into his car as I arrived; he was obviously off to work. He said hello; maybe commented about the fine weather; and naffed off without paying.
I know he'll pay me on Saturday morning; or send a cheque if he's not in.
Maybe I've 'molly codled' my customer's too much and they think it's no trauma for me to collect on my collection day!

Can't see the problem, are you blokes thin skinned or what?
They are our customers we should treat them with respect.
If a customer goes out while I am there (they do have lives you know) I just stick an envelope in the door when I'm finished.
I don't find it too difficult.

I would personally be very content never to see any of my customers again...I clean their windows, put the docket through their door and expect them to place the money into my account...very simple.

Pretty much how I see things too.
In fact, I haven't seen one of my customers for about 10 years. The money keeps coming as regular as clockwork though so that's fine by me.

I do charge a late fee, and if people try and take advantage I do say something, I am running a business, I give respect all customers I also have very thick skin, I have never had anyone cancel because they know from the start that I work to get paid, and finding a good reliable and trustworthy window cleaner that know who to do a quality job hard to find, there are not loads of us about, but there are loads of window cleaners if you get my point :D
If they go out you still have to put a slip through the door, just a little annoying sometimes as IMO it is rude I treat as I want to be treated ;)

I would do if they didn't sneak out the house into the car and drive away totally ignoring me and the fact It would be nice to be paid there and then without having to return later for the money.
And what good will an envelope through the door do?, I ain't had any cheques through the post now for a week, and it looks like it won't be much better next week either >:(

got a mate who does wfp system, he operates a zero tolerance window cleaning service, if they don't tip him at the usual occasion or if he has any slight difficulty with them, he'll sack them on the spot, even if they look at him wrongly no messing, he's always got tons of work & not crap stuff either. guy's ZERO TOLERANCE YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!!!!!
-
It is undoubtedly rude and plain ignorant for customers to just leg it when you arrive to do their windows, its happened to me in the past and every time I feel gobsmacked by it.
I however cant understand someone (on here in particular) trying to justify the customers unacceptable behaviour. I take it you ignore people that speak to your face and pretend they just aren't there?

Spot on dude.
Any of my custy's are welcome to leave while i'm there & some do, I always get my cheque within a couple of days anyway. a bit of give & take, what's the problem?
I've never had a "not today thankyou" I respect my custy's & they respect me, i get on very well with all of them. they always pay me & it's none of my business if they have to leave while i'm there for whatever reason. :D

I think the point is being overseen. It is more the customers that wait till you get to the back of the house then close door quitley then do one. That is just plain rude a simple I will send you a cheque as I am in a rush, common manners IMO
