Hi Guys
Just wondering what type of vehicle you all use for cc. Does an estate look unprofesional, or does it make much differance against a van for say domestic work?

A van is perceived as being more professional by people in general.
Although using either doesn't really mean you're more professional than anyone else?

We pack out a Peugeot Expert. How do you get everything into an estate car? I used to drive a big Volvo 740 estate "Mums Taxi". Not that we ever tried, but it wouldn't have been possible to put everything in that. ???

I started with a hatchback 25 years ago. At that many time other trades people, used estates etc. Today, people are much more selective and in modern times it really is a none starter to use anything other than a van for our business.

I first used a box trailer which was sign written and fitted nice & snug in my garage but as more equipment was bought it became too small.It was a right pain reversing with it especially in tight cul-de-sacs.It did look professional as i towed it with a Toyota rav with magnetic signs on the rav too.At the time a van was not affordable so basically go with what you can afford.

A van looks more professional, no doubt about it!
When you arrive the 1st thing the customer sees is the van, ask yourself if you where employing a tradesman what would you prefer to see and estate car pull up, or a clean well sign written van.
Having said that though it dose'nt mean you are any better at your job.
But the customer can only go by what she sees!
Anyway, how dose anyone get all their equipment in an estate car?

3 years ago we bought new stair & landing carpet from a large carpet warehouse. When the fitter arrived with it he was driving an old red Nissan Estate and our carpet was tied on the roofrack, curled over like a banana resting on the bonnet and over the back.
The other gear was crammed inside and I was ashamed to have him outside my house. I couldn't get rid of him quick enough, (and I'm not a snob).
He was a decent enough bloke, carpet was laid ok and it's been good but I will never go back to that warehouse for another carpet.

Case in point! Nicky percieved by his appearence. Had he turned up in a van that quote wouldn't even exist. The fact that he turned up in a car made him seem less professional whereas he was just as competent as anyone else.

Beleive it or beleive it not I started out with a Lada, then went on to a Sierra Estate, then a couple of Renault Trafic vans and now I use a Transit.

Could it be that you have built you business from the early customer base who respected your choice of a socialist state built vehicle?

Could be Keith, never thought about it that way :), still its funny that someone like myself who is so pro- American actually started out in a Russian built vehicle.
