Okay, this is beginning to annoy me, Ive spent most of today browsing various web sites as I need to buy a new ladder, but theres nothing like seeing and lifting a ladder in reality which just isnt going to happen if you buy it off the net.
At the moment I have a 3.4M double, not triple, and it is also more a DIY ladder than a trade ladder. I bought it from Homebase, so not only is it not really man enough for trade, it may well also negate my insurance.
I want a triple 3.4M, something suitable for gutters as well as windows. I want to be able to use a ladder which can be broken down into its various parts so I odnt have to heave 25Kg of metal around all day long when Im doing mainly windows. Is it possinble to break the triples down so the largest and heaviest section can be dispensed with until its needed again (for gutters etc). The one I have at moment can be taken apart but if I have a triple and it can be dismatled does that mean that the two parts that have to be used are the two heaviest sections or the two lightest sections?
Ive just spoken to these guys on the phone and they reckon their triples can only be broken down so you have to use the two heaviest sections.

Hi Matt.
I think a triple 3m would be better as when i was trad i found any longer was a bit too long for quite a few windows. Most of the day the second section was on the first run i know.
With the triple ladders it's the top section you will pull out but this is better as the run your working off is a bit wider & more stable.

Thanks guys, I said I was interested in a3.5m as thats what Ive always used, but perhaps a 3.0m would be okay, possibly a little more sturdy. Cheaper by a few quid too.
Anyway just phoned those guys David, they were helpful. Ive also just popped into a Brewers Decorators merchants, the only ladder they had there were Youngmans with square rungs :o :o ouch !!

They are made of Kit Kat wrappers!!! and will snap at the rungs in time!!!
Been there, done that, and got the SCARS!!!

Did NOT like the square rungs, nor could it be split so just the two smaller sections could be used.
I'll be going for the Lyte as things stand at the moment

I got my triple 3.0m from midland ladder co. Paid an extra £15.00 for the supagrip feet. It does split down top or bottom section. £135 including delivery.

You mean you can use the two smaller/lighter sections together without the larger heavier one?

Matt, I have the 3m midland triple. I haven't tried to split it, but I think only the smaller ladder can be removed. If you have the safety feet fitted they come on the largest section only. I don't have any problems carting it around as a triple, it seems lighter than my 3.5m double. Probably my imagination... ;D

My 3m triple from Midlandladders only drops the smallest section. Suits me, but I think it would be limited for gutter cleans.

The lyte is an excellent ladder & i'm pretty sure that they are lyte from screwfix.

IMO never touch a square rung ladder it hurts your feet after a while, I would always use the D rung

The lyte has nice wide D rungs, i agree about the square rungs- lethal!
