Title: slate tiles???
Post by: dg-cleaning on October 09, 2007, 09:22:47 am
Any one cleaned slate tiles before???Cleaning a beautifull house with real slate tiles which are heated underneith, any ideas what to use on this type of floor? The rest of floors are solid wood so I would probably use an electrostatic style swiffer on them floors.Any ideas for slate tiles??

I have slate tiles in my laundry and i just mop them like i do any other floor. They dont get any the more dirty than the rest of the house. Obvisouly i clean the dust off first - i use a vacuum cleaner, i am interested in your choice of  swiffer for the wood floors, why is this (just curious as i've never taken to dust-mop sweeping although it is quite effective).

well bertie to be honest I was always a mop and bucket girl!

However one particular client asked would it be possible for me to use a swifter as she was concerned about any water leakage under her laminated floor.Previously I had vacuumed laminate floor then mopped ever so lightly with a well rung out mop.I would probably mop only if stains on floor or otherwise every 2 weeks as I was aware of avoiding as much water as possible.
One week I arrived and client had left me a swiffer plus floor wipes,, so I thought I would give it a bash. I must admit this style had never appealed to me ,I had thought it a gimmick but it really did work and cut down a lot of my cleaning time without needing to fill/empty bucket etc.
So I went to buy my own swiffer and came across one in wilkos with electrostatic cloths so basically no moisture just collects all dust and debris that vacuum may miss.I gave them a go on my laminated floors and worked great plus only cost £3 and the pack of 10 cloths 99p approx 10p each!
I would recommend it for keeping on top of generally clean houses anyway.I am converted!

Vileda used to do a really sturdy dust-mop, it was about the time that Swiffer came out (C1999), i dunno if you can still get them or not because although i was impressed i still prefer to use a vacuum cleaner to lift dirt wherever it is safe to use a vacuum cleaner.

I know that water on laminate floor is the worry of many a domestic cleaner, although to be fair in my experience most laminate floors have been laid badly in the first place (which means they are already ruined) and/or have already suffered damage from water spillage and/or things being dropped on it.

That said, i am convinced that these floors are much more durable when it comes to water than is actually perceived. I thing so long as you dont allow pools of water to sit on the grooves then it's pretty much ok. I always use a wrung-out mop to do laminate floors and have never had a problem.

Not that i am saying you are wrong to use the swiffer pads (i hope you dont think i was saying that  :D ) i was just keen to hear how other people get on with the swiffers as i firmly belive that in this game there are many ways of working that suite some and not others.
