Hey everybody,
I have just started my cleaning business in N. Ireland and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good carpet cleaning machine.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Clare :)

There's few I would strongly recommend some professional training though it will save you loads of money in the longer term.
Go for 2 vacuum motors and a 135psi pump.

Good prices and good service.

You will get yourself a reputation posting links to suppliers letting people know of good deals ;)

Thanks for replying so quickly! i really need a cheapish carpet cleaner, it is just for cleaning the odd domestic carpet and doesn't have to be an industrial cleaner.
Any more thoughts anyone?

whats your budget?

There are other cleaning machines around but I'd stronglt recommend don't buy a 2nd hand one, you don't know what usage it has had and saving a bit today will cost you loads tomorrow as a motor is £100+ and you'll need 2 and if it's buggered they go through them at a rate of knots and a pump is £100+ and they can be the same.

got to say this must be the best deal out there at the moment, view it as buying a new mini to do a bit of driving, now and then.
You don't need a new machine but at that price you really should avoid 2nd hand and the pitfalls there. I have three of these and reckon the 500psi is the better machine but the basic is just that basic and cheap, does the job.

if you have the extra get a heater and larger pump pressure.

wait till you can afford better, or post any deals your offered on here for some very ascerbic appraisal.
£400 buys you something on ebay that probably won't make it till the end of the week. then it will cost you £ a lot in repairs beter to have a decent low power professional machine that will do the job right and get you recomendations, that also has a years warrenty.
But if it really small low useage take a lok at a rug doctor go for a white and blue one as the red and white ones often( but not always) have been liberated from a hire company.
-
I'd borrow some more, £400 will get you a hire machine what anyone can get from a supermarket or dry cleaners.
You will probably get a 35 psi pump and one small vac motor a very wet and partially cleaned carpet, in the walkways you won't make too much of an impression as it won't cut through the dirt.
No laughing just an honest answer, if you want my opinion put the job off for another week drum up a bit more business and then spend, you 'll only spend once and you'll leave the cleanest of carpets behind with your money and with no problems.

Be sure to weigh-up the weight issue, some machines are notoriously heavy, even though the photos don't make them appear too bulky. A smaller/lower cost machine is likely to be relatively light, but as other members are pointing out, these might produce an unsatisfactory result is terms of overwetting and/or solution spraying.

Regarding Overwetting The Rug Doctor does not Overwet You can know get one close to your budget and is available on 3 easy payments.
Its the Blue one you want. Wide Track Commercial used in Nursing Homes etc
It has two low preasure pumps 35psi not sure if this =70psi which the pump in entry level machine from alltec
It has a vibrating brush for aggitating and makes a good job of small rooms.
Shuan have you ever tried one?` I remeber reading one of your earlier posts where you said you started with a low cost machine, and you had industry experience. But it got you started and help to turn Mrs Ashmore into a wealthy lady.

I'm just thinking if you can only afford £400 for a machine, have you really thought through all the other costs involved that probably mean a lot more than £400.
Insurance or are you prepared to gamble.
Van? + bills
Pump up sprayers, vacs etc etc
And then there's you marketing costs!
I think you need at least £2k to get you going working eve and weekends even with £400 machine.

Ian I used to rotary first then I had a Hydromist champ to HWE, what a service I was offering ;D

A quote from an earlier post of the originator. - "it is just for cleaning the odd domestic carpet and doesn't have to be an industrial cleaner".
Now we all know how good Nemesis Super & M Power is and 5 litres goes a long way and does a great job.
If it was manually agitated with a stiff carpet brush (thats cheap).
and then using something like a Neumatic George (again cheap) - I wonder what the result would be like????
to assist drying could even pick up a 2nd hand air mover for what - £100ish
Now thats cheap & within budget
and remember "it is just for cleaning the odd domestic carpet and doesn't have to be an industrial cleaner".
-
I am not planning on going into business as a carpet cleaner just to do the odd small carpet or rug, if i was going to promote myself as a carpet cleaner then i would happily pay £2000 plus to do it professionally.

cgetty,
forget what I said then. i guess I was just looking at your opening post when you said you had just set up a cleaning business in NI.
