I went and saw a sign-writing company about the van this afternoon.
They might not be able to do it for 2 weeks, but at least I've started the ball rolling.
They're e-mailing me some designs in a few days.
I'm having a big yellow duck as mentioned earlier.
It'll look great, I know it will. ;D
Can't really spare the money, and I'm borrowing a bit, but if I'd got it done months ago I probably wouldn't have been in this situation now.
I'll take some photos when it's done... :)

Squeaky, did you get my reply the other day about the icons, just before they deleted the post?
-
Not sure what others think, but i think a van should pull in some business, as well as instilling a bit of confidence in customers.
hoping to get mine done over xmas

No I didn't mate.
I wondered what had happened to that post. ???
E-mail me if you like, it's in my profile.

Only chatting to the missus today and saying what a waste of money the signwriting was! I reckon I've only picked up three jobs with it :( Maybe they can't read round these parts)
-
Let have some piccys of these smart vans - give some ideas to us who have not had done yet
I'm carpet cleaning, by the way, but any ideas are welcome.
Get them cameras clicking.
-
I had my van sign - written not to get work, but for the image it portray's. With the van done and with a simple uniform on, you just look the part

It must be that time of year..................cos ive just approved the proofs for my van wrap today (as well as taking delivery of my new Fiat Ducato) ;D and its in with the signwriters for 2 days next week getting done so I'll post the pics when done

i think your both kwackers ;D

Hi Squeaky,
I really like the idea of a large yellow duck. Very different, it should really catch the eye. Make sure that the duck is large enough as this is what will get people looking.
There is a company online (I think that there is a link from JOUK's forum) that does full van wraps with instructions for fitting them yourself and they work out very much cheaper than other alternatives.

Came across these

I have a very large orange frog on the front/back & both sides of my van and this is what seems to get me noticed and the yummy mummys and kids all seem to point at the van....does it get me more work for its on sake....this I do not know but people seem to recognise the orange frog with window cleaning.

Ian,
Im based in Warrington Cheshire but I would have thought you should be able get it for around that price anywhere as long as you steer clear of the real big boys.

A duck?
Is that for paddling in all that water left by WFP? :)
-
I don't know if you've figured the rest out squeaks, but your most humourous posts on here have usually involved song lyrics. (And peoples recognition thereof)
Mind you if I tell you why you're funny perhaps you won't be funny anymore.....
Added later
Just seen Bertie Boo's strapline kisses on the hand maybe quite continental, but dysons are a girls best friend.

This is the link Alex is on about. It looks like its around £89 + vat for your size van sqeeks.

So you think youve lost this work because your image isnt right?

??? Nothing to do with image.
I look fine thankyou, which is more than I can say for some of the ugly goons who clean windows.
A window cleaner would look a berk in a suit.
No, I've lost work because people don't like WFP of course.
The reason I might not be in this situation is because I would have been advertising myself on the side of the van. ::)

Suit would be overkill when door knocking, smart casual (a suit says sales man)
it sounds like you have been a little complacent in getting more work, good on you for getting your van booked. All you need now is to do something else to get more work, every window cleaner will lose work for many reasons: dont like it, lost job, bad job (even if good) got it cheaper etc etc etc, there are people crying out for a window cleaner in your area as there will be in most areas of the UK, now it is starting to get a little coldwer have the beer money cleaners will stop so even more work is available.
Good luck in getting more work m8.

Personally I think Van signage is all about projecting a professional image, like logo on clothing etc. It’s more of a consolidation process for your existing customers and potential customers. As for generating more business yes, but not at a pace or volume other marketing methods would. I’d be more inclined to use the cash to get some decent leaflets printed then follow up with a knock on the door a couple of days later.
In my first 5 months I’ve generated over 100 customers returning just short of 1k on a 4 weekly service. Not breaking any records I know but better than nothing. My van isn’t written yet, all the work was gained with leaflets and recommendations on the concept of using WFP and so far no one has dumped me (Yet!!)
99% didn’t have a W/C and where all used to the Trad method previously. Plenty of work out there by creating interest.
So basically what I’m saying is, don’t expect an avalanche of new customers from having the van written. (Nice idea about the Duck BTW)
Go out and leaflet /canvass, promoting the Benefits of WFP for the Customer.

This is mine, Big, bold letters, says exactly who we are and what we do.
Three vans on the road (soon to be four) all with the same signwriting. Brings in loads of enquiries. ;D
Mistake was not having contact details on the back - rectified that now ;)
Cheers

you do not have your website address on there yet you freely advertise yellow pages "I throw that straight in the bin, quicker looking online ::)
your telling people to look in the yellow pages I hope your the only one in there or you would be helping every other window cleaner in there (just a thought) ;)
hope your website address is on your yellow pages add.
apart from that think the van looks very good ;) cant really mistake what you do for a living ;D

Very nice too Ian. Mine is a lot plainer and more bland than yours but the message is there if someone wants to phone. I've started doing my shopping a few miles away where there is a much better area for window cleaning. I leave the van parked prominently and take my time shopping :)

Ian:
"Contact Details" includes the web address ;)
Having said that we get very few enquiries via the website (I have a dedicated e-mail address on there so I know if any e-mails are through the site)
Most people phone up and say "I saw your van...."
Now, people don't get time to write down phone numbers, let alone web addresses as our vans speed by ::)
So: I put "Look in Yellow Pages" because people can remember that, and they do. OK, I may be directing them to other window cleaners' ads, but the one they recognise is mine.
How do I know? Because they phone me ::) ::)
We get about 10 - 12 enquiries every week over the phone and as far as I'm concerned "the proof is in the pudding"
I've had 3, yes, only 3 e-mail enquiries via my website in a year.
Cheers,
Ian
