what would you charge for this? it about 20/25' to the top and i am going to do it with scaffold.
any sugestions
-
just to wet and dry scrim it i would charge about £100.00?? why cant you do it from a ladder mate?
-
wouldnt want to risk leaning anything on that!! :o
-
oh i see then is it your own scaffold tower or are you hiring because that would also be a factor in the price, i would charge £100.00 for the actual clean and whatever the hire of the tower and some downtime too so about £200.00 should take you a few hours i suppose mate looking at the photo
-
lean your ladder on stone arch at each side and reach in it should only take about 20 minutes a side at tops. £100 for that and i think you would be a larger thief than the priest you where doing the job for , i would say £30 tops.
-
looks like about 2 hours of scutter by the time you get the scaffold up and down a couple of times.
£80 + scaffold hire
Maybe you can rope the vicar into passing you up the scaffolding bits and pieces. Save you a lot of time and give him some real work to do.
-
if you would charge £30.00 for that trevor then i would get you to do it for me mate
-
i have just put a price in for £75, thats with the hire of the scaffold, but i mite do it as you said trevor, see if they want to pay that much first

Nice polished floor + 20ft ladder = ???
-
nice polished floor + 20 foot ladder + damp scrim under ladder feet or someone footing = job well done by someone who knows what they are doing , if you cant do a small job as simple as this then you shouldnt be in the trade.
-
thought about going in cheap for poll position at the pearly gates when the time comes!!! :o :o
-
I hope you don't come unstuck ::)
If it's an old window, the lead will be very thick, so you can't just "wet & dry" scrim it - the lead will grab your scrim and stop you getting at the glass. The individual panes are small, so you will only be touching the centre of each pane, leaving a border of uncleaned glass each side of the lead which you can only get at by using one finger and treating each little bit of glass like a separate window, i.e. polish all round the edge of every single bit of glass.
It might pay you to lay out a waterproof sheet, use WFP and a "wet & dry" hoover and suck up the water every couple of minutes.
Personally I'd avoid it like the plague ;D
Cheers,
Ian

wfp.... it using holy water, they wont complain then ,when its all over the floor

Nice method statement! Like to see a commercial customers reaction to that idea ::)
Sure it's a simple job. As simple as falling off a .......... :P
-
you could put ladders up the arches, they should rest ok... moving them down the arch as you clean...then same the other side
-
steve is that a cartoon in your aviator or a picture of you being a muppet , if you did a method statement for this job as i had put ,it would be accepted ok you would put an anti slip device under feet of ladder instead of a scrim although in my experience and one that involves working on ladders in slippy school halls etc a damp scrim works better , you would also need a ladder stabiliser at top of ladder but ladder mits would make it legal work like this can still be done from ladders and is being done on a daily basis in many large organisations so please get your facts right.
-
guys come on.
lets help each other
chillin out :)
-
yeah well said,
anyway my idea is the best lol ;D
-
i agree gazza yours was the best idea but if you read the post again you will see i mentioned that first , sorry if i came over offensive in my earlier posts but sometimes on internal work ladders are the best solution as long as they are secured ,in the picture you could even put ladder up stone arch and place the feet at bottom of arch on opposite side this way the ladder would be wedged and couldnt go anywhere.
-
damn, lol... just noticed you did say that... :D ;)
yes would be the way to go i think.
;)

I was only having a laugh. Please don't take things too seriously.
It is a free country and you are free to run your business however it suits you. I wouldn't want you to get hurt. I broke my leg 3 years ago and it was not fun. I used to take some risks that would make you ill if you watched. I have been cleaning windows for 17 years and I have made a good living out of it, but, I have learned the value of safety. You only have one life. Since I have learned about safety I have made more money than ever. (The avatar is me counting it) I can go in and charge twice as much and I still get the job. Now I am also doing method statements for architects. Damp scrims etc would not pass, trust me. You talk ladders to them, they get nervous. Start talking scaffolding, they are much happier. I am just trying to pass this on. No offence meant.

Are you aware how much money Churches make per year? £30 for that you are joking arnt you? I am :-[ asking that
-
no ian i wasnt joking that job would take a maximum of 20 mins so any more than £30 i feel would be too much but if people feel they are worth more then thats between them and the customer , what would you charge.

Out of curiosity, how much does a church make in a year?

Put it this way I paid £100 for an hour + £30 for the heating then had to pay a person to unlock it. So God only knows how much (excuse the pun) ;)
-
if that will take 20 minutes please tell me how you would do it,
-
up a ladder using a mop and scrim done 100s like this and for a lot less than £30
-
At the end of the day, Trevor's right.
How can you live with yourself asking much more than that for 1 window? :-\
It's isn't going to take more than 45 mins if you're any good at this job.
-
Charge £30 if you like
But if it turns out to be the last £30 you ever make, you'll wish you'd charged more!
