Just nipped home to fill up with water Ive been cleaning a suite for a Mr Khan this morning, Its a syhenic like cord white , been using hydramaster heavey duty with a acid rince , I think Im going to struggle getting paid on this one, I dont think Mrs Khan is happy with results
Any help appreiated
Thanks John

if it's do or die try a akaline prespray such as champion or even a traffic lane cleaner, but make sure you use a acidic rinse, and have it hand if there is a reaction on your test patch. If it syntectic you might get away with it.
Good luck
-
or just walk away and learn that it's a difficult fabric, only you know whats best
-
Cheers Paul cant walk no all ready spent 3 hours on it. I pointed out to Mr Khan on survey about limitations Now Mrs Khan is getting involved going over the suite with a fine tooth comb Nightmare
-
good luck, but if you know it's not right, better to say no charge and walk away than end up with a claim on your hands.
Have had to do it myself. Just remberer we are cleaners not magicians. If they want it "as new" go to a upholsterer.

suites dont you just hate them ;)

I've met Mr Kharn a few times!

When cleaning a 3ps you should explain to your customer when you do the inspection that you can not gaurenttee the removel of any marks or stains. He is responsable for putting the stains into the sofa and you can only clean to the best of you abbility without coursing futher damadge to the suite, why should you not get paid if they cann't be cleaned out. He is paying for your time, for you to do the best job possible. I feel if you should lose out on this one ( whitch you shoud not), make shore you explain things better when doing your inspections in the future. I have cleaned a few suites that look no differant when i have finnished, but ive always been payed.

It would be unwise to criticise the general appearance of a freshly cleaned suite until it has dried.
Safe and happy cleaning :)

clean the dirtiest bit first, ask them if they are happy with the result, if they say yes then continue, if not pack up. its as easy as that!!
don't work for 3 hours to then start wondering if you are going to get paid.
every quote I do I explain the cleaning the dirtiest bit first I never have a problem. although I rarely clean dirty suites mainly a bit around the arms and a bit of head grease.

Thanks for all the replies, when I did the initial survey I pointed out the limitaians, I even set up truckmount and cleaned 1 of the arms to show him, Very good carry on he said. In my eyes I have done a good job.Going back tomorrow to pick driers and get paid hopfully. where do I stand if he refuses to pay?
-
John if you did an arm as a demo and he was happy then he can't refuse to pay you.
the thing is there will always be dishonest people who will try and take the mickey out of peoples good nature, it all depends on what type of person you are to what action you take. if you are like Billy bang him on the nose :D

Hi
Do you advertise a Money back Gurantee? if you do he can refuse to pay.
If you dont & belive you have done the best job you can then i would expect to be paid.
The problem with upholstery is that most wait far to long before getting them cleaned.

The reason I no longer do work for Asians, is they have unrealistic expectations in 99% of cases

i totally aggree with Mike , if I get a realy hacky suite I always clean the dirtiest bit first , and if they are happy with that i proceed, if they arnt I just pack up, haven't had one yet that I couldn't clean but I always have this in mind before continueing

You probably all know about this, but if the worst happens and you don't get paid you can resort to using the Small Claims Track at the County Court.
It's easy to do (you can do it on line).
I have found that the mention of this action is often enough to encourage people to pay up (talk about a County Court Judgement and Bailiffs seizing their goods is quite scary to some people).
It's no guarantee of course, but useful to have the knowledge in case you need it.
I've never done it as a carpet cleaner, but used it twice in my other business and been successful both times.

I was having trouble getting paid for a job.
What I did was to get some Small Claims Court forms - filled one in with all the details, sent the customer a copy stating clearly this was a copy and the original would be sent within 10 days if no payment, plus the court fee to be added.
Got my payment pretty quick! ;D

I'm going to pay a £30 parking ticket today, although I sure I could get off with it using a loophole but somethings are just not worth the bother, moral being, chalk it up to experiance.
Others good advice comes from thier experiances and we all get caught out ocassionally, anyone who says they get it right 100percent of the time is lying. Just down how you handle it, and what works once may not work the next time. just stay calm when your dealing with mr khan
Good luck and hope you get paid.
-
update Got paid off Mr Khan only just thou, when I arrived this Morning there was several brownish patches on the couch , A quick spray and brush With fibre and fabric rince and they went, Never again I have been taught a few good lessons
John
-
great glad to hear it, would you clean their tps again if they asked ?
-
Thanks Paul , I think I wound rather walk around Tescos with glass in my shoes than do a job for Mr Khan
John
-
leason learned then! best of luck for the future.
-

Hi John,
If the suite was bad or even if it wasnt, if it was synthetic I'd have gone straight in with an Alkaline rinse, probably Ultimate Master following a Citrus Pre-Spray well agitated in. I can understand the cautious approach of using an acid rinse, but more often than not they just dont cut it with badly soiled suites, and chances are you will have less problems than when not using an effective rinse agent. In 28 years on sythetics I have always used an Alkaline rinse and never once neutralised with an acidic spray. The only problem I have ever encountered with a suite was with an acid sensitive indicator dye problem. The problem would have been far worse if I had used an acidic rinse.
Dave.
