Just wondered if there was any way of having a look in a few other directories. I.e. the Thompson and Yellow pages.
-
You can go to the reference section of your local library. They usually keep a copy of every yellow pages directory for the uk.
Also you can use www.yell.com (http://www.yell.com)

The thing is I've paid for my advert to be in a few other areas Directories. It should have been in since September and since I haven't had one phone call yet, it all seems fishy.
-
because it dosent work!!!
Ring them and ask for a book i spose. If your spending money on advertising they should send them.

I thought I would have got them since I'm in 5 Directories!
Mad day today. Local builder asked if I would do some builders cleans for him. Then run a contract. By the sounds of it there is a lot of work involved. Funny how we pay a fortune in advertising and end up with work just by doing our jobs!
-
what 5 books are u in in what areas ???
-
Wirral and Chester, Warrington, Runcorn, Widness and St Helen's, Wigan. Not sure which books go together except Wirral and Chester but another two towns have one book.
-
must be costing a furtune :o
-
Wirral is Yellow Pages and has already paid for itself from my free listing. The rest are thomson and they gave me a massive discount because they couldn't offer me Wirral. So I'm happy with that.
-
ahh right!!
how big is ur ad going 2be in yellow pages then?

Just the basic one. I spent a lot on the logo so I don't see the point paying to get it on half the page. Think the logo does enough at any size.

Have you ever tried mailshots around local businesses. Any luck if you did?
-
No havent tried..
most will jus get trown in the bin or to the wrong person. you need to get the person who deals with window cleaning and tha type of stuff.. you ring up but the people who answer are clueless or not intrested n just give u anything because your selling something.... we do it our selvs wen people ring us at home dont we :P to get rid of them

Yeah I know. Its hard to get a foot in the door really. Got to be in the right place at the right time at all times. I am thinking of bulking my workload from five slow days to four busy days and then get my shirt and tie on of a friday and get out looking for work.
-
Give it a try all u can do.
Its hard isn it gettin it and u look at these big companys in the area like the 1 u worked for and the 1 i worked b4 startin myself and u think.... how did they get them all ???

My old boss got his company off his Dad. He lived in Heswall so all his friends got money off their Dads to start there own business. One of his friends bought the Pyramids in Birkenhead and the cockhedge in Warrington. Another started a facilities management company called " Entire " You've probably heard of them. The guy who owned it was really nice bloke. Another of my ex bosses friends owned Heswall. So when you put together a portfolio of all the work his mates gave him on top of the work he inherited off his old man ( Basically most of the High Street Retailers in Birkenhead) You've got yourself an impressive little portfolio!
