Title: Website A year On
Post by: Doug Holloway on October 24, 2004, 11:06:57 am
Hi Guys,

I've just renewed my website for the next 2 years.

It seems longer than a year since I set it up!

In that year I've got about £2,000 of business for a cost of less than £100.( I've not included Yell in this as I consider that a seperate issue)

I've also managed to get to the top of all the major search engines.

I can only see the internet growing and it is often good quality and well priced work.

cheers,

Doug

I am on a few local internet directories which send a few peolpre to my site but i have had no work from it at all. The uk average pc ownerships is 1 in 10 homes in cornwall its 1 in 100 (why?).

Paul,

Internet access for households was about 10% in 1998, but now it's 52%.  The biggest expansion seems to have been in middle aged types, which tend to be our customers.

Try putting your web site address on your leaflets, you're bound to get a few hits at least.

Ta,
Peter

Paul,

I've found you.

I like your site , where did you get it done  , BUT ;

Your heading is the most valuable part of your site and you have put 'Good afternoon from your local carpet cleaner'

The first four words are extremely common and completely irrelevant to your business. :'(

Try' Carpet Cleaning in West Cornwall'

The search engines will rate your heading words very highly so d'ont waste them ;)

Then if someone searches carpet cleaning cornwall you will come up.

They are not likely to search 'good carpet cleaner from local afternoon'

Hope this makes sense,

Cheers,

Doug

Hi Paul,

Where did you get the picture of the restaurant carpet - That's not your wand  ;D

Can I suggest that you check the text - little things like " i'll " instead of " I'll " or better still " I will " does spoil the overall effect.

Paul/Scott,

The most important directory to be in is Google Open Directory

Paul,

No its not the same as pay per click.

Your changes will not have been crawled yet , you have to be patient for that.

The reason you've had so many hits is people on this site.

Doug

Paul,

There are a lot of grammar, punctuation and spelling mistakes throughout your text which rather lets it down.

You say that it's all taken from elsewhere. I recognise a little bit!

Hi,
I'm now on my second edition of my wesite, i wouldnt mind some feeback!!
From what i can gather, it's not only the key words that you use, it's the amount of links that you list on your site, as it's the links that make the difference.
My web address is www.sevenstarscleaning.co.uk
Cheers
Ian.

I'm impressed with  your web site.  I was inform recently that the first few words on your home page are very important as that what the search engine looks at. Scroll back and read dougs post .  It makes at lot of sense.   Paul

could be that its becuase i have not been in business as long as some of you guys?.
