Does anybody have different levels of cleaning.
ie
Budget no extra spot removal
Standard all stains treated
Premium standard plus protector

Premium - includes protection
Allergy - uses anti mite detergent and protector
They allways want the middle package, which is what we really want to sell them. We then move to pitch maintenace, but few go for it, probably because of the way we sell it.

great for marketing and making the prospect know that all carpet cleaning services are not the same, but to be honest there are other way to this end.
I feel that most of use think we provide a top service for our customers so why is stain protection and spillage call out not in "the price" why is it always extra? don't our customers deserve it?
I will be in a month or so getting dry fusion and offering free stain protection to all my customers that want it, plus Nick stain pro is really cheap.
its not surprising that everyone is going over to hard floors! I know its not bullet proof but, with free spotter and spillage call-out its got to be a better way to go for us all?
For those that will say its an up sell, work out how much you do each year and make from it and divide it across all your clients. that way it free to everyone.
with regard packages, you can educate prospects with consumers guides regarding the reason that there are price differences between carpet cleaners.
for those of use that do maintenance plans we know the benefit of a top up each year with stain pro. by next year all my clients will get it as standard.

It's usually suggested by marketing " gurus "who usually know more than you do, that there is a benefit to offering packages, as ( they claim ) it makes the client's mind up for them!
In reality, what makes up the clients mind, is the person in front of them and / or the quote you just gave them.
To charge extra for stain removal, etc, is putting yourself in the bait and switch camp, which has been condemned by everyone, almost. Fine line between Upsell and Bait n Switch!

You are a very well respected carpet cleaner who has built up a good reputation, however when you started carpet cleaning in 1903, you probably didn't need much marketing then. Today you will fail if you don't get to grips with it.
You tar marketing and sharp practice with the same brush in this and other threads. It's like you are Victor Meldrew on some sort of moral campaign.
Upselling is adding a service that will benefit the customer, not paying more for something your have already bought.
I'm sure you are very happy with what you have achieved in the twilight of your carpet cleaning career. Marketing is here to stay, like it or lump it or collect your pension. ;)

What i'm trying to do is increase the price of my standard clean by say 5p per foot.
But that means that some people will then say thats to expensive.
So hay presto " I can do a budget clean obiously to a slightly lower standard " for a little bit less.

While bracketing is a tried and tested technique I'm guessing you really just need a little bit more faith in your abilities as a damn good CC, better than many and offering something different to the competition.
You could try an experiment where the next ten jobs you quote 10% more. Mentally you decide that you are prepared to lose them, just for the sake of the experiement.
Perhaps you are clutching on to something you haven't even got, scared you may 'loose out'.
I did this with the your money back guarantee thing. If your'e not happy you don't pay. In the end increased quotes no end and so far no comebacks. It just takes a bit of balls on a calculated risk.
Forget selling as such. What will get you far further is the courage to ask for more and actually feel your doing something right when you get the odd refusal on price grounds.

Adding 5p sqf is no hardship adding £8.00 per visit can peeve the customer off

I could as some do target the very wealthy only, but i personally dont want to do that.
What i am trying to achieve is to try to convert some of the price shoppers that are only interested in a cheaper job.

that's what the consumer guide is for "pre selling"
i am doing some tests at the moment with this on my websites i have the guide download like right over my price list, And i renamed it "why It might cost you more than you expect if you choose on price alone" (http:// "why It might cost you more than you expect if you choose on price alone")
