Thought I'd share this one with you.
Went to do a quotation yesterday, so pulled up outside a large detatched thatched cottage and introduced myself. After counting 19 windows (£19) conservatory (£8) and 1 patio door (£2) gave the lady my price.
I nearly always get jobs on this pricing structure but this one was way off as far as she was concerned.
Her old WC, whos now moved away used to turn up for £7!!!! Thats the biggest difference between quotes I've known.
Can anyone beat that? No prizes though.

A lady phoned last week, she says her window cleaner has move onto cleaning shops and he not interested in domestic anymore.
She lives in a 3 bed terraced and was charged £3.50 front and back, my price £10.00.
She never hired me, she reacons she be able to get one for £3.50.
In her dreams

Yep. A good friend of mine moved to Warwickshire last year. Massive house.
As I sat in her garden sipping my beer I (naturally) priced up the job in my head.
£50 min for the out and £75 both sides.
Over a pub dinner she told me that the one and only w/c in the immediate area came bi-monthly and charged £7 ???
7 bloody quid?
Next morning I went round and inspected her windows expecting them to be well shoddy...but no, they looked pretty good to me.
How does this man live?

The old WC has a totally different attitude to the new WC,in the old days they were just glad of the work and most of them only used to work until about 11-12 o`clock,i would say that it`s only over the last 15 years that it`s been treated like a proper business with proper prices, some of these old boys are still about as you can see with these ridiculous prices.Once the old brigade are gone(No Offense) people will come round to the new way ie WFP and proper prices for cleaning there window`s,when a customer tells you the old price and it`s as silly as the amount quoted i would say there expecting a massive increase if truth be known,in some cases 400-500%.

the local shop front guy charges 2 pound for a huge shop front, we charge 12 pounds!!!! I only have 2 jobs on that street!! Luke
-
I reckon wfp has and will push the prices up - the overheads are just too high to do it for peanuts.
-
Glad Im not the only one :)
-
i blame these cow boy wc or people who just want a bit of money,i always get "well our last wc charged blah blah"
-
I think it`s the work smarter not harder situation here,if a WC charges £2 and does 10 shops he`s earn`t £20 but i would rather do 1 or 2 shops for that money. All he`s doing allday is chasing his tail for a poxy few quid.
-
It is not just the old boys or the 'cowboys' that charge peanuts a lot of the nationals do as well. Pricing large retail shops at just a few quid.
-
There`s only one bloke you can blame for that,Tony Blair.

Really....one of the bigger firms in my town quoted £25 to do what the W/C I bought my round from charged £8 for....hmm that reminds me.....he's going up to £12 next month ;D

Why he's not even the PM

I don`t care what any other WC used to charge bla bla bla,i charge my price and that`s it.When i quote i can tell within the first few seconds if it`s gonna be worth me hanging around for another 5 mins talking to them.If they say my other WC used to charge this i just say where is he now, they love talking about there other WCS don`t they,if another guy used to do them why isn`t he now that`s the big question.
-
No but he was when they all started coming in.

No. I can't beat that. However I did recently price a job at £13 that had recently been done for £5. I felt my price was a bit tight too.
-
I got one, she phoned me twice, desperate for a w/c she was. popped round last week & posted my quote, trad job, old small farm cottage, 8 quid, never heard a peep from her ;D tight git.

went quoting today 1 houses £6 was the price they used to pay. I asked why they looked so dirty and they said the man just stopped coming, my reply was I know full well why: he was way to cheap. Quoted £13.50 and the lady said yes, within 10 mins of me getting back to the office I got a call from the lady across the road was recommended as a very nice man ;D so got that job aswell at double the price ;)
-
priced a job 25 first 18 second when i phoned her up to ask when to start she says dont worry we are moving now, and she called from yellow pages so i popped £2 on extra maybe that tiped her over the edge
and the other day lady comes up "how much to do the fronts" £8 whats she says my w/c charges £3.50
-
I quoted for a job at £50, I was told that their current window cleaner charges £8!!!!!! :o
But unbelievably she accepted my quote as she said her other wc does a terrible job, but despite this she feels sorry for him and still keeps him on, so she has 2 window cleaners, except she pays him £8 and me £50!! ;D
-
really?
so she pays £50 for her windows to be done, how much is it really worth?
-

She actually pays £58, as she has 2 window cleaners because she feels sorry for the other one and can't bring herself to get rid of him. It is a large house and for a good job including frames & sills £50 is about right in my opinion. ;)
-
sorry meant £58
so how does he manage to do it for £8?
-
Got a monthly £22, the old guy only charged £6!!
Recently got a huge old three floor edwardian house sitting on land, £65 every six weeks. The old boy used to charge £25. 24 georgian sash over three floors 30ft+ and side windows. :o :o
I dont mind when they say "my old w/c only charged" thats were you come in with the patter and the USP's ;)

He dosn't actually clean them! he just pushes the dirt about on the glass with an old scrim, I think he only takes about 15mins, I'm there for an hour and clean them properly including frames and sills 8)
-
When he comes back next time he must think they`ve stayed clean.
