Title: Rectangular vikan brush and swivel not compatable
Post by: SherwoodCleaningSe on September 19, 2007, 08:20:22 am
Hello all
Just wondered if anyone else has found this and what they have done about it.  I tried screwing a mk2 swivel into the new red monofiliment vikan brush, but it won't crew in as the neck of the brush is too big.  I could probably rectify it by chopping a bit of the neck off, but was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and what you done.

I saw a post ages ago where a guy had the same problem.

He just cut 1cm or 2cm off the neck.

But............ he said the vikans are too heavy to use with a swivel. You would need a light brush

Yes you do have to cut 10 to 20mm off the vikan neck, but also, to make the mkii swivel more rigid/stronger- drill a hole straight through the ball & cup (in the obvious direction) about 3mm dia & push a nail / split-pin or similar all way through the hole. this makes it far better to use IMO. ;)

Yep done that too with the pin from a pop rivet.

Thanks guys.  I'll have to get the saw out then.

Heard this thing about drilling a hole in the back of the swivel before but not 100% sure what you mean.  If anybody has a picture it might clear things up a bit.

Thanks again for your help.

Simon.

Hi simon
Hold the swivel & see how the ball could pop out of the socket in which it is held, the hole has to be drilled through the ball & socket so that when the pin is pushed through it will still swivel & pivot round the pin. if the hole & pin are put in the other way this would prevent the whole thing from swiveling. once you look you'll see what i mean.
Tip- try to drill the hole as straight as possible, this will allow for a smoother action on the swivel once the pin is in place.

I think I understand now.  You basically drill a hole through the bottom of the swivel or through the top, where the notches are that make it swivel and then put something there to hold it in place.

Could you go all the way through top to bottom?

K?

The chop has been performed.  I've not attempted drilling through the swivel yet though.
