Title: Getting flotex completely clean!
Post by: Jason Hedges on September 17, 2007, 08:31:50 pm
Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else has problems getting flotex completely clean.

I pre-vac, pre-spray, agitate, extract..... Tried with regular detergents, m/s and combination of both.

Hadnt had a problem until last 2 jobs, neither came up as well as I'd hoped. Custys were happy but I wasnt, probably 50% improvement.

Problem areas were main walk areas in front of sink and cupboards.

I'm starting to think flotex has same worn fibre dirt staining problems as normal carpets.

Any ideas?

Kind regards,
Jason.

Don't knock yourself out, its only Nylon and does degrade with heavy wear. Used to clean some in a nursery. Ones in classrooms cleaned up great however the corridors never looked any different even though we were pulling loads of dirt out. Even after vaccing, pre-spray, agitation, extraction and further extraction after buckets of water poured over, no joy.

Hi John,

Being a perfectionist just wondered if there was an easy answer. Hate leaving jobs not happy!

Thanks for reply mate,

All the best,
Jason.

the way Flotex taught me to clean there carpets was to litterally through a bucket of water and detergent mix and scrub with a yard broom !! sounds daft but it works

Hi Stu,

That could be a perfect candid camera moment ;D, would love to see a custys face when throwing a bucket of water into their kitchen!

Thanks for the advice, will try it next time they leave the keys ;)

Know what you're saying though, the more rinsing you do, the more muck comes out, till no more but shading still left!

All the best,
Jason.

No matter how many passes you do on a heavy soiled Flotex the soil just seems to be never ending.

I dont know why, it's never been explained.

Thats what we used to do to flush the urine out. No matter how many buckets it never looked any better.

Does flotex respond well to vacuuming? Could this be a factor in the dirt levels?

I never like vacuuming it (upright or cylinder) and as a favour to a friend i did once run my George Numatic over her flotex....the sandy grit and black water was like nothiung i'd seen before.....

Hi Stephen,

Always vacuum flotex, as you say dry soil that comes out is amazing. More amazing is ammount of dirt in water when flushing. Dont know where it all comes from.

All the best,
Jason.

Jason, sorry, i think i mislead you, i do domestic cleaning (housework in other words) and i dont like it when i have to vacuum flotex. I have often wondered if much comes out when you vacuum it.

Bonnets are good on flotex.

The only machine I have ever seen to clean Flowtex sucessfully was a rotawash and at over £2000 I would rather not bother

Hi Stephen, no worries mate, sorry misread your question. Using an agitation vacuum cleaner like a sebo bs the dry soil removed is tremendous.

Pete, could have used 100 bonnets on the one i did today they would all have been filthy and the flotex would have looked the same!

Stu, I'd rather spend the money on beer and achieve 50% ;D

why don't you get a few of the local sheep (that I know you are very friendly with) to rub themselves around it. they'll pick a bit up.

Seriously though, isn't the backing very exposed on flotex and isn't quite adhesive which might explain the never ebnding dirt issue

Hi Pete, not many sheep round here mate, getting me confused with mr moss I think ;D

Reminds me of a joke:

"Why did the welsh carpet cleaner take a sheep to the edge of a cliff"?
"Because it pushed back harder"

All the best,
Jason.

Only done it on that childrens nursery which was run by a charity. It was the only way to do it economically. Water isn't a problem as long as you control it. Used to submerge clean rugs as well.

Probably wouldn't harm it as long as its tested, rinsed properly and dried quickly :)

Flotex told me to bucket and scrub Flotex years ago. I think the traffic lanes do not come up properly because the pile wears short and the dark backing shows through. If you rub the pile very gently you can feel how long it is, where it looks dark it will feel bristly and not softer.

I hate it anyway and charge a hefty premium.

I bought from Ashbys a hard floor wand (4 jets) and brush combi.

Would that be ok on flotex? or too harsh?

Thanks for the replies,

Trevor: Great advice mate, cheers!

Mark: Havent got a pad system at present, looking into one as we speak, thanks!

Joe: Not sure mate? Could be worth a try by the sounds of advice given the more flushing the better!

Thanks again.

All the best,
Jason.

The best way I have found to clean flotex is using the Texatherm system.
If you slightly over apply the cleaning solution and only half ring out pads, you can get fantastic results.
