I no longer want to use a seperate upholstery vacuum so I'm looking at using my portable to do the job. Could anybody advise me whether to buy a dust downer or a filter box adapter? I have not previously used either, does the dust downer just spray a fine mist into the vacuum hose, does it use much water? I'd be gratefull for any advice.
I've been in the trade for more than twenty years and only just found this forum, I have to say that I've picked up one ar two tips which have been really good, thank you very much!

I would recommend a dust-downer as a opposed to a filter box for several reasons.
Most filter boxes are designed to intercept fluff rather than dust. A cloth bag could be added to trap dust also, but this would have to be removed prior to wet extraction, whereas a dust-downer can be left insutu.
The amount of water used is small, since, as you supposed only a mist spray is required near the tool end of the hose. These devices are easy to construct or Ashbys sell an inexpensive but effective one.
