Title: Smaller Vans
Post by: TVCS on September 12, 2007, 09:02:23 pm
Been looking to replace the old transit van sooner rather than later and have been looking at smaller vans.  Test drove a Citroen Dispatch but found it to be very guttless and slow.  It was the 1.9 model but I think it would struggle with 250lts of water in the back.
Can anyone on here recommend a van of that size that can handle a bit of weight in the back.
I may have to go back to looking for a transit but fancied something smaller.

Go for a scudo/expert size van,... any smaller is just a pain in the backside,... I'm looking for a bigger van at the moment from my Peugeot Partner!

I have a 400ltr tank in the back of my 1.9 Dispatch, its not the fastest of vans, but you don't want to go that fast with all that water in the back!!  ;)

I know 8 wfp w/c round here and they use:-

1. (Me) Fiat Doblo 1.3 / 400L
2/3/4 Fiat Scudo 1.9/ 400L/650L/650L all 3 seaters
5. Citroen Dispatch 1.9/400L 3 seater
6. Mercedes Vito 650L 3 seater
7/8 Citroen Berlingo 400L/400L

My Doblo is great - a 1.9 would go like a rocket - but I do run low occasionally on water and I will go Scudo size next mainly because I want 650L and 3 seats but no rush and not for three years.

Cheers for the replies people.
I know that a 1.9 will physically carry 250lt of water but as I will be using it day in day out I would want something which wont drag its feet up the hills.  In the not too distant future I will be looking to go up to a 400lt tank.  I think I will be looking for a 1.9td or the hdi model.  All this depends on one factor...  If I can find the correct amount of pennies.

I have same setup as groundhog and with an empty tank it does seem to fly in comparison. I can't overtake anything with water in the tank though and it does wind me up.
Great van apart from the (lack of) speed.

well i gone and done it.  I have got myself a nice little peugeot Expert 1.9 td.
One drawback is that I'm here in Worcestershire and its in Poole, Dorset.
Never mind.  A 5 hour train ride and it'll be all mine. :'(

Well now I have me little ol van sorted I'll need to decide on what sign writing I want.  I have been searching for some sort of vehicle templates on the internet but have not found much, apart from an american site that wanted $599 to register which I thought was a little steep.
If anyone knows of a site where templates are free or cheap or has a template for the van mentioned above it would be a great help.
All I have to do now is polish up the old Transit and find a mug buyer.
