Heres the weights of the Skypole and new Superlites. For a fair test i have only included sizes of poles that both companies make.
Gardiners Superlites
SL-35.........6x1.7m...........1.3kg
SL-40.........7x1.7m...........1.62kg
SL-51.........9x1.7m...........2.26kg
SL-56.........10x1.7m.........2.58kg
Skypole
35ft 3.271kgs
40ft 3.544kgs
50ft 4.589kgs
60ft 5.589kgs
The Skypole is much lighter than any other aluminium pole on the market ( tucker! ) but compared to the Gardiner Superlite 2 it a little heavier but with the possible advantage of lasting slightly longer. The Skypole does have a fibreglass bottom section though and this is slightly safer because it doesnt conduct electricity, gardiner will insulate your pole though for a fee. The Skypole will require more length space in your van though with an average section length of 2m. then with clamps on top that will be a little longer. The Gardiner will be made of 1.7m sections but without clamps. I hope this helps anybody who is thinking of buying either pole. Luke
ps. if anybody wants me to post a picture of the Skypole that Skypole sent me then please ask.

Yes please mate ;)

this is the mk1. not for resale, this picture was given as an idea, this isnt the final product. I just dont want to upset skypole.

I should think the final product will be very similar, Luke
-
I like the state of the art superlight brush. Alot of thought must have gone into that.
-
Do you mean that brick of a vikan. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
These two poles can't be compared Luke ( your showing your inexperience again :o) they are two completely different tools dude!
tony
-
I bet that new pole is quiet heavy,if the quoted weights are right it will be.A lot of these new poles that come out just look different but as far as weight goes they all seem to be much of the same, not including the modular poles of course.
-
The Taper means that weight wise the fishing poles are unbeatable because your not having to carry round extra telescoping sections.
But at last we are now getting manufacturers to provide lighter equipement, keep demmanding.
-
Macmac, I was comparing them on the fact that both were designed specificaly for window cleaning and that both were designed by smaller companies. Oh and I'm not exactly comparing a squeegee to a wfp am I !!! I must be so inexperienced to compare two tools designed to carry out the same task!! If I am inexperienced then by defenition I am going to "show my inexperience" through my posts. Despite my inexperience I have still managed to show people two different products they could buy, their weights, some comparisons and a picture, I'm sure this is going to help somebody decide if they want either pole ( no hard feelings, I understand where your coming from macmac ) Luke

Ok, you're bigger than me ;D
tony

Correct me if I'm wrong,.. but isn't the Skypole telescopic and the Superlite modular?
Telescopic is always heavier,.. but often quicker easier to use. A matter of personal preference really. But for that weight difference, I know what choice I'd make for the really high work!
-
Luke,
Im glad we have a bit of a discussion on the pole,
Yes as stated the pole is telescopic in my experience this is best but i agree maybe not for everyone!
Also the bottom section of the pole is not Glass Fibre but a completely different material as with the rest of the pole.
The Gooseneck is made from the highest quality Ali available in the world! (yes the world not the universe that we know of ;D) its a two part so all will become clear in a couple of weeks.
We are curently finishing the full technical data sheet for the poles and will forward out to those that require.
The clamps in the picture are slightly different to the finished item which are designed to remove strain on the connection between the pole surface and the clamping mechanism.
I hope this helps your input.

The weights are compared above,.. but if the prices were compared would the crowds be leaning in a different direction???? What are the prices lads???

Stuart, is the Goose-neck made from 7075 Aluminum?
Peter
-
Is that what your new pole is being made of Peter?
-
It will be made from Aluminum but not 7075 which is the best grade available in the world, or so I am told. Problem is it costs 10 times more than the 6000 series, and a whopping 2 years lead time on the manufacturing side.

It's like comparing a queegee & a microfibre, same end result but by a completely different method. you need to stop reading & get a few years wfp under you because with some of your statements/posts & lack of practical experience you're doing no one any good. it's like michael shumacker telling trevor macdonald how to read the news!
And no , I'm not trying to be rude, just trying to save some poor sole who may take your advise not knowing you've only been wfp 2 weeks!

I can tell your a nice man Tony! :) Luke
I'm a very nice man luke, that's why any information or advice i give is genuine, well thought out, accurate & backed up with plenty of experience.
Not just rushed together & theoretical with many aspects seemingly guessed at.
One read of your original post screems your lack of experience, i & many others can see this & are aware of your newness but many may not be & it's them who are at risk of getting confused & miss-led.
I have strong feelings about people being given bad/wrong advice or being miss-led & many of your posts or replies to posts do this.
I know your intentions are only good luke but due to your situation are in many cases inacurate to say the least. ;)

I suppose there's no nice way of trying to get my point across, anyway, that's that, no hard feelings. :-*

Maybe i'm just a bad-ass miserable old git ;D
Who me? :o surely not :D

How old are ya Luke? 18 is that right? Ya learn something every day in window cleaning.Your a `wizard` with computers as well as I recall.Anyways hows ya dad,
Is he still with ya.Get ya winter woollies out,the dark cold days are nearly with us.
-
I'm 17, yeah my dad is still with me. Do you remember meeting me at the show Louis ( or is it Lewis sorry ), you told me that if I was good with a squeegee I would never be out of buisness!!! Luke
-
P Bowen,
The reason i have opted for the vikan brush head is its quite reliable and with a wide range of styles available to the end user it seemed a good pleace to start,
However the gooseneck will take any brush type its an option which will be available to all poles purchased, so thats vikan, ionics, salmon, unger, tucker the list is endless.
Peterf, all i can say is :-X

Mac , Its the written word thing,
quote Luke chapter 18 verse 2 as above "

The first (fat) bit of the goosneck looks like it may be taper threaded, if so, is this to attach a plastic angle adaptor, that's assuming the second (thin) bit threads out of it?
tony

macmac, it does, I magnified the picture the other day to see, that is a very good feature because my brodex pro long is missing this feature, Luke

Tony,
Now i know im gonna sound smug but yes the gooseneck is designed for all types of end user's so the whole gooseneck can be used on awkward access areas by simply changing the end, or for soild runs of window cleaning say commercial you can use the whole gooseneck to aid strenght.
Boy am i proud.
-
Tall lad for your age Luke as well, won`t need a pointer much for downstairs windows.I know this off the `thread` but ( Jeff Brimbles here) what do you fella`s use
For a gooseneck with sills 6 inch to 12 or 15 inch deep with a fishing pole at heights
Say above 30 feet? Is Gardiners aluminium one a good buy? I`m planning though on
Making up my own thanks for replies
-
Its been designed for one use WINDOW CLEANING and im proud!
hence why it will take all types of brush with or with out the full gooseneck
regards, Stuart
-
lewis, the gardiners ones would be good because there really light and have a vikan style thread, they are re-making the goosenecks for the 17th of this month, so I dont know what the changes will be but perhaps they will be lighter. Luke
-
oh Stuart, why dont you offer the unger carbontec brush. Its light and apparently has really good cleaning power
(http://www.soapnational.co.uk/acatalog/UWBRUSHS.JPG)
the one pictured is a 11inch, Luke

I'd be smug too if i'd thought of that stuart, well done, i need one already, i could use that feature almost daily.
tony
-
Luke,
as i stated in an earlier post we dont need to supply them as you will be able to purchase it as a bare pole with out the brush from us then simply fit any brush (you may need to check with us prior as we are testing some brushes at present)
having said that we have designed it to take all brushes but some havent been checked yet.
-
with that goosneck AND removable sections, i have to say, it's looking pretty good so far. do the sections just slip off tool-free like the facelift?
tony
-
Tony,
Yes they do although there is a section at the bottom of each internal pole to indicate where to safely extend the section.
This is acheivable because of the 360 degree clamps.

macmac, what do you use for your high work? Luke
-
macmac, what do you use for your high work? Luke
A carbon facelift, but i only use it at full length once a month, upto 35ft it is excellent, upto 24ft unbeatable, but if i was doing work regularly at 40ft+ i think i would have to invest in a super-lite, below this IMO telescopic with removable sections more than out-weighs the weight saving of a modular.
tony
-
It's the 44ft one by the way.
tony

Peterf, all i can say is :-X

May I ask for what reason?
Peter
-
Lewis Gardiners do a gooseneck with an 18" reach i think.
-
Peterf,
The only reason i am keeping certain things quite is for the official launch of the pole with full data sheets and colour brochure, which have all the details on including materials used to manufacture the poles / goosenecks etc.
I think you can understand our reasons.
regards, Stuart
-
Stuart
How does your pole compare to carbon facelift, i don't expect you to say not as good (unless it's half the price) but - as good, better, way,way better, any wee hint will do :D

No problem Stuart,
I just wanted to know what the gooseneck was made of, but I suppose you already answered that before I asked the question.
Peter
-
Peterf,
The gooseneck is mades from the highest grade and i know what you mean about ordering it but its been well worth the wait.

Tony,
Sorry for the delay in my opinion ive tried to build with the help of a couple of specialists in there chosen fields a great window cleaning pole and yes i have in my eyes and with a lot of help from my guinea pigs (testers) a leader in the wfp market,
The price will be released shortly after a couple of details have to be ironed out, i know it will beat the so called leading poles on that department and i can only hope that the end user will agree.
hope that helps,

i hope you are right stuart and wish you all the best, i hope to be one of your customers.
i currentley view facelift as the market leader ( in it's field ) as i don't view modular poles as being in the same catagory.
good luck

Tony, modular poles will and do work however they are by no way as quick as using telescopic poles,
I think that the modular poles downfall is the reseting the height much easier if you have a telescopic pole.
thats why i chose to build the pole based on the telescopic method.
rgds, stuart
-
yeah but you can work quicker with a lighter pole, and for longer. Luke
-
Well Luke,
can you drive faster with a lighter car or a supercar that was designed for the job in hand,
regards, stuart
-
!!!whats that got to do with window cleaning !! :) :) your pole looks good, dont justify it, I'm sure youll do really well with such a good design and the pole is much lighter than any ionics thing, Luke

Who says so?? it completely depends on the job at hand and the company using it.

hi Steve ( foxman ), hows things going down there? Luke
