Title: R/O Upgrade
Post by: russ_clark on September 08, 2007, 12:34:31 pm
I need to upgrade my R/O like yesterday!
I currently have an omnipole pro 300gpd with an aquatec booster pump.
Been great for last 9 months but has now been outgrown!
I have a requirement to produce 1000-1200ltrs of pure 5 days a week now!
Any advice from you suppliers as what route to go??
Considering 40/40 v Merlin.
I am Essex so hard water TDS in is cr$p (300-500)
water pressure is cr£p too.
Are there any deals around???

Spend the extra and get a 4040 with a booster pump, it will be worth it.  You'll also need a water softener otherwise the ro will be shot in a year.  Maybe if you get a ws and ro from the same supplier they'll do a deal.

I got mine from  www.purewindowwater.co.uk

Totally agree with Sherwood on this one.

Bacically you have a choice between the Merin (YUK) and a "proper" high volume RO. It will initially cost you a bit more but it will pay back the difference many times over. Yes you will need a softener. That would apply to either set up. The main advantages over the Merlin are much less waste water from the 4040 and much better TDS reduction so a lot cheaper to run using less resin.

Try  Gapswater for the set up.  Sorry too lazy to find you a link but just google it. Excellent quality/prices and back up.

What sort of £'s was your set ups guys
including thw water softener.
Knew I had to upgrade the R/O but the w.s business I had no idea
about to be honest.
Why would the R/O be shot in a year without this ?
Surely with regular maintenance/filter change /etc this would not be the case??

The RO with the booster pump cost me about £1250 and the water softener was about £400 thats for a 3500L WS (it will soften 3500lts of water before it needs a regen).

We live in a very hard water area, even if you flush the RO lime scale will build up on the membrane and cause it to loose efficiency.  So you need to soften the water.  I'm sure that some one else can give a better explanation.

I've had mine for nearly 9 months now, water comes out the RO at 3ppm and I can fill 1000L in about 5 hours with a 1 pure 0.8 reject ratio.

If you are in a hard water area you are far better off with a water softener.

I didnt bother with the one on my Ion*cs system and ruined me membrane in 4 months!!!

A water softener will take any calcium out before it hits your membrane.
