i don't have a website Ian. I prefer to pick my work from a select community and don't want to travel or entertain work outside of this area.
If i was selling or expanding my business i would consider having a website, but otherwise i consider it an unnecessary expense.
I have an advert in a parish magazine for a tenner a year and that has been fantastic for me. A website, like advertising in the local paper, might well pick me up some work but from my experience of the local paper it is crap work in a crap town for crap money.
That sort of advertising is too indiscriminate for my needs as a sole trader in a rural community.

Cheers for that relpy mark you have many valid points there m8, I am guessing you do not know to much about a website (please dont take offence to that if you do)
I only selcet the work I take on from my website always have only advertise the areas that i work in quite simple really, I always get work work close to places I already work in, not sure how big an area you live in but if there is a window cleaner in your area online he must be clearing up. Parish mags are great do it myself my webaddress is in there too (as bigger space cost money i dont need to spend as my website is an extention of that add and and other advertising i do.

no offense taken.
If there is a wc in my area online who is clearing up then good luck to him. There's plenty of work to go round and i don't need that much to stay happy.
I don't have a sign written van either.
Like i said, if i was expanding the business, taking people on or selling it i would go for a website. There are many pros to one i do understand that.
But i like to keep things simple.

Ian,

Is there any reason why your directory(website) is limited to WC'ers?

Just thought you were limiting yourself, that's all.

So is there a particular reason?

I have a site with these no my window cleaning one though.

http://www.strato-hosting.co.uk/shops/index.html

They have loads of free templates easy to change your site to how you want it.
Also free domain name

At the moment they have it for £1 for 6 months and that includes your domain name

I must say i have been with these for a while now and have never had any problems what so ever
