Title: stain-guarding fake suede suites

cleaned one of them fake suede (buffalow hyde) suites yesterday, (wot a nightmare!) do these suites take the solvent protector well, as never tried to protect one before. cheers stuart

Hi

Remember you are dealing with a bonded fabric and some do not take kindly to solvent based products.

Hi,

Most of the fake suedes have a label saying DO NOT DRY CLEAN.

Use a water based protector.

Solugard from Solution is ok for this sort of fabric.

Hi Stu

Cleaned a couple of these in the past couple of months, you might want to think about using my system as it is very easily cleaned with practice, will dry quickly and use less effort.

Agree with Steve, use solugard or  one of the other water based solutions for protection.

I was nearly going to say, "I find this quite amusing'.

But I thought better of it.

I used to think it was awkward sorting out the various words and sayings between the Brits; Yanks, Canucks, and Aussies.

But when it comes to fabrics, and leathers, those old cliches, pale into insignificance.

This present post talks about 'Fake Suede'

Down under 'Suede' is a form of leather, as a rule of thumb, suede is for apparel, whereas in furniture, it would be called Nubuck.

Some manufacturers call their micro/macro/fibre suites, fake suede, or imitation suede.  This is usually a polyprop; material, sometimes with a nylon face.

Now comes the intriguing part.

Stuart says that he cleaned one of those fake suedes, buffalo hide, yesterday.

Derek say's, 'Remember you are dealing with a bonded fabric'

Can someone please explain to me, the construction of the 'Fake Suede', as referred to in this post.

No wonder Delia doesn't understand me.

Hi Shorty

Think of a bonded fabric as being like Flotex/Walkertex/Lobofloor for upholstery use.  Face fibres were traditionally nylon but now we have polyester too.

Just to keep you all awake tonight...some of the bonded fabrics being discussed are 'dry clean only'

I have some samples (Polyester face fibres) and have tried it out...it's correct
