Hi lads.
i have a 2002 expert van... 1.9 diesel.... non turbo .. non hdi...etc
who else has one of these?
are they slow or what..? mine is .. and heavy on diesel,,
or is it hust mine... even when i aint carrying water it does 0-30 mph in a couple of months
-
i had a peugeot boxer 1800 and that was gutless too mate
-
what do you have now aztec?
-
2 litre tdi vivaro with 750 litre tank in the back and its the dogs! vfeels like there is nothing in the back!
-
I have a scudo and if i want to overtake i write a letter to the engine informing it that i am going to accelerate!!
Totally gutless
Miss my astravan turbo diesel now that thing could shift not that i would ever go above 70mph on the motorway ::)

we have the 2.0 hdi, it came with a full tank and we have only filled it once, even with best part of a tonne onboard it pulls like it did without all the wfp kit! Luke
-
i am not alone then... its embarrassing isnt it?
whats do most of you drive with side doors and power.... even if smaller than expert and scudo... i might get rid of it and go slightly smaller... or even get a tranny .. reliable and cheap to run....
-
2ltr hdi for me too, pulls really well seems really good on fuel, bit wobbly on the bends though.
-
I was looking at buying one of these three vans, but if I have to put my foot out of the door and skate along just to overtake, Then I had better look for something with a bit more get up and go, and without the need to top it up with carlsberg every day.

Jeff i know the hdi ones are brilliant .. go for that .. or even a turbo ... but not a flat 1.9... they are crap.

Thanks for that Gaz,
I had the chance of the 1.9 not hdi or turbo, but now it makes it sound like it doesn't have an engine.
I,m using a car and trailer at the moment, with a 1.9 vectra, 250ltr tank on board with all the gears in it and it flies up hills.
I have some very steep hills by me, and I need to get to the top of them. so the 1.9 is out for me then.
thanks again Gaz.

its ok , no probs...
my van is lovely..... its just really shy and timid. ;)

Same here (well, Trafic actually)
Flier isn't it? ;D
-
We have one. Entering it in the Le Mans 24 hour isn't really an option ;D
Mind you with 500L which takes it close to it's full pay load I wouldn't expect it to give a Cosworth a race at the traffic lights.

Learning from your mistakes Guy's, Turbo it is then. Many thanks. ;)

Jeff, HDI if you can afford it, higher payload too (common rail injection engines).

May just go back to a push bike with a trailer on the back :'( :'(
Thinking of swopping my car/caravan and trailer for a good van now

Why are you intrested in speed carrying all that weight. If it can stop ok and it gets you home in one piece, thats all that matters.

Nel, I need the power to get up some hills around near me, I.m bu**ered if I'm getting out to push half way up ;D ;D
-
Good point Neil. I have the HDI but never go over fifty with a full tank incase I need to stop (against something solid) Lovely grunty engine on hills though.
-
The Citroen Berlingo, Fiat Scudo, Peugeot partner and expert, and I think even some old Vaxhaul cadets all share the same model 1.9 non turbo super sluggish engine. Its not just yours mate,.. they're all the same!
-
thanks for all your imput...
dropped a clanger with this van.... just had to put its first exhaust on since it was new.... guess what...?.... all of it needed replacing..
£240 .. no luck i tell ya. :o... oh by the way i get around 60 miles per tenner... i think thats rubbish, what do you guys get.
-
I put in £25 per week and get between 180 and 200 miles thats at 96p per litre

We use a renault master 2.5 pulls no problem.....
Just brought a VW transporter 1.9 TD Special not sure what this is like yet.
Renault Master 2.5 gets about 65 miles to a tenner and carries 800lt of water every day.

I have the Dispatch 1.9, not the fastest but a mechanic friend said you need to keep the revs high in 1 & 2nd to get the best out of it, keeps all the crap from building up.
(Could be hoping I blow the engine so he gets more work :-\)
Gaz I need a full exhaust system and £240 sounds quite cheap, best I’ve been quoted is £295

exactly
ive driven the non turbo and hdi, and they both get you from a - b without much hastle, its not a race folks
-
its about pulling up hills, and feeling like a tractor when pulling away from lights. holding traffic up is not nice in a van... feels like a fully loaded truck!
-
Alright Gary
you could always super charge it or stick a jet engine in it :o :o
-
oh by the way i get around 60 miles per tenner...
As fuel is in the region of £4.50+ / gal that means you're probably getting in the region of 26mpg.
If your vehicle is running at over half full weight then that's probably about right for that type of engine.
