Title: Thank you for the help regarding Risk Assessment/Method Statement/Safety Policy
Post by: windows_chepstow on October 19, 2004, 04:18:10 pm
Hi,

Thanks to all those who helped me out with the Risk Assessment, Method Statement and Safety Policy.

It was for a Hilton Hotel, and I got the contract (They also required me to ride a unicycle and juggle at the same time - but I got there in the end).

If anyone wants copies of mine - just e-mail me.  I normally check this site out at least once a week - so be a little patient if I don't reply once again.

Thanks again - I wouldn't have had a clue if it wasn't for the helpful window cleaners on this site.

Tosh.

Hi,

I've sent all those who asked, my various documents.  Hope you got them and found/find them usefull.

I think this site should have a dedicated area to example documents!

What do you think?

I would save me e-mailing them to the seventeen people who've e-mailed me so far!

Thanks for the email Tosh, really appreciated it, and all very professionally presented too, well done!

On the When I'm Cleaning Windows board they have a faq's site with loads of answers to various queries, I see that this board is going to have one for the carpet cleaners, would be nice to see one for us window cleaners too!
You vould then perhaps have various documents such as those in your email for everyone to share.
A good suggestion Tosh.

Think you have a lot of emailing to do, AS it happens I dont need any RA/MS... BUT yes would agree the forum needs dedicated area for business forms, I'm sure the site owner said he was sorting this but never happen.

Tosh,

Thanks for the copies, I used them (in a slightly modified fashion to include the WFP aspect) at the weekend when bidding for three school and two care home contracts, got the lot today.

Everyone really impressed with "all the bumf" I sent out with their quotes.  I owe you a pint or two if we ever meet.

Cheers again.  Ian

Hello all,

Thanks for the interest in my risk assessment and method statement.  I've now e-mailed them to clean it up admin - so you can get it from them!

Tosh.

PS.  With regards to the Hilton contract - it's a real bugger.  I've bitten off more than we can chew here!  Be carefull with your quotes - you might actually get the job!.
Title: Re: Thank you for the help regarding Risk Assessment/Method Statement/Safety Policy
Post by: windows_chepstow on November 23, 2004, 06:39:42 pm
Hi Smudge,

I've e-mailed my documents to cleanitup admin who will hopefully put them in a down load area where you can get them from.  If they don't, and you still want them - re-email me - and I'll send 'em on.

As for getting started into commercial - the best way is to advertise in the yellow pages, local pages, BT phone book.  If a company wants to change its window cleaners - that's where they'll look.  Then its down to you to sell yourself (not literally mind).  It takes time though.  It took 8 months of being in the local pages to get just ONE commercial contract.  I thought it was a waste of time - but the contract I got was a huge one.

I've had nothing from the phone books since (apart from scattered about residential - most of whom I haven't taken on because they're not in my areas).  But remember, advertising is tax deductable, so it's worth doing.

Word of mouth is also good and this comes from the residential part of your round.  I've had numerous shops (and one pub) just from leafleting houses.  I end up doing the houses and eventually the shops that the person owns/manages.

For window cleaning - I prefer houses.  We do them quick and earn more money than we do from commercial properties.  With large commercial properties, generally the cheapest quote wins.  With residential - you charge what you want - if you dominate the area.  The only pain with residential is collecting your money from lots of customers, where-as commericial, you only have one collection point.  Commercial window cleaning can be done (as you probably know) in almost any weather, and often you have an 'inside' aspect you can save for a rainy day.

Anyway, good luck with your business - I'm sure you'll do well.  Start with residential - they're easy to get and grow from there.  A good leaflet helps (email me and I'll send one).

I do it with my missis and she's good at bringing in residential business.  Potential customers tend to approach her and ask for a quote, probably because females seem less threatening than a male window cleaner.  My missis is very fit (marathon runner) but she only does the bottoms.  She's only 5' 1" tall and couldn't cope with a set of doubles.

I take it you're strong enough to carry a set of light trade double ladders around?  If so - I'm impressed.  If not, I'm still impressed.  It's not a job many females go for.  I've two young daughters and women who do traditional 'mens' jobs set them a good example that gender is not a bar to anything they want to do.

Take care and no more falling off ladders.

Tosh.

If you put your cursor on the filename/address of the first document, it should change colour. Left click and it should open. From the top toolbar of this new document, left click on File, scroll down to Save As and save a copy of it, to wherever you want on your own PC, as a Word document.

That'll be a Fiver - thanks!

If you still can't find it; pm me your e-mail address and I'll send you what you're after.

If you still can't download it, PM me and I'll e-mail the documents to you.

Hi Guys,

I'm flattered there was such a big demand for this document; but I only cribbed it from other documents that other people kindly sent to me.

BUT I'VE E-MAILED IT LOADS OF TIMES.

Look at reply number 53 (just a couple of posts up - from Admin Forum) and click on the document you want.

Alternitavely; click on the 'Documents to Upload' section (there's loads of other good documents to have a look at too) and upload it from there.

Hope this helps.

Tosh.

Gordon,

It's here already, mate.  Either look at post number 53 (just a few posts up from here) and click on the link or look down towards the bottom of the page and click on the 'jump to' icon and go to the 'documents to download' bit.

The method and risk assessment is there and there's loads of other good documents.  My favourate is Wavie Davies Standing Order Form.

Anyway, my computer was made in 1913 and it's a bit of a trauma to copy your e-mail address then attach the documents and then send.

It'd be easier (for me) if you did it yourself.

Regards,

Tosh
